Cause of a broken family

Nightscar slowly padded back into the camp, his limp slightly worse. He knew he should have listened to Cinderheart when she told him to stay in the camp, but he wanted to talk to mysterypaw. After all she was his apprentice now and he wanted to make sure she felt welcome here.
He looked up as he padded through the entrance and sat down in a sunny spot stretching out his leg. The scratch looked worse, but he'd had worse scars before. He just knew Cinderheart would freak though. Although he had just started talking to her he felt as if he had known her forever. She felt close to him, like she already knew so much about him and understood him.
He gently licked the fur around his scratch and winced slightly as his tongue brushed over it. Maybe Crystalmoon needed to look at it. He kept washing himself quietly, listening to the activities around the camp. A shadow casted over him and Cinderheart's scent caught his nose. He slowly looked up at the she-cat but never said anything. He wondered when she would blow.[/center]

Oh was Nightscar's life going to be miserable. Cinderheart would see to it personally. He may be strong, but he was a mouse-brained. It was slow moving, because of her own wounds, but the she-cat was determined to speak her mind. Reckless, mouse-brain toms! she thought They may think they are indestructable, but they are certainly not indestructable.

Slightly out of breath and occasionaly ripples of pain running down her shoulder and neck, Cinderheart sat down in front of him. "You. Mouse-brained. Tom." she huffed out. "I told you that you shouldn't have gone out! And now look, your limp is worse! Don't even try to pretend I didn't see. I watched that entrance from the moment you left to the moment you got back. You may enjoy having an apprentice, and you may want her to feel welcome. But you certainly cannot put that before your health."

"If it wasn't for the fact that I am injured, I would have followed you and hunt you down. You know what, that might have been better. I've been spending the time you have been gone getting even more angry. Mouse-brained tom! What if you came up on another fox, or a rouge, or maybe a patrol from another clan? What would you have done then? You may have been able to hold them off long enough for your apprentice to get away to the camp, but what if one snuck off and attacked her. Or perhaps one would have finished you off. You may still be able to walk, Nightscar. But you certainly couldn't fight long with that leg of yours!"

Nightscar blinked as Cinderheart ranted on at him. He flicked his ears slightly and looked around the camp. He was probably getting some strange looks.Oh well, he always got strange looks.
He looked back at Cinderheart as she wrapped everything up.
"You're right." he mewed looking right her. He knew he probably caught her off there, but she was. He should have stayed in camp like she did.
He shifted slightly and looked at her again.
"i should have stayed here instead of worrying you. and if we had met a fox or badger, well then i might be in Starclan now. But we didn't...there wasn't even a scent around. Now a patrol, i don't see why you were so worried. We were on our side of the boarder, so they should have attacked us in the first place. Rouges, though they are said to be the fiercest cats around, can be easily confused." He paused for a moment to look at the she-cat. "cinderheart, if you think i would do something to keep me form seeing you, then you've gone completely mouse-brained. I love you alright. Yes, i may make bad choices at times, but i know how to handle them. Just trust me."
He looked at the silver she-cat, and could help but feel sorry for her. She was hurt and now he had made her panic. Jeez, some mate he was turning out to be.[/center]

Cinderhearts eyes widened with surprise. He agreed with her? But... Cinderheart huffed, it would figure he would make excuses. It is, afterall, what toms seem to do best.

"It figures you would make excuses, all toms do after-" she stopped. Wait a minute, had Nightscar just said he loved her? The she-cat was flustered and heat was rising up to her face. "You....what..wait...you..." she couldn't get it out. Cinderheart loved him, but like a brother she never had. He was such a good friend. She was torn in half, she didn't want to hurt him by telling him her feelings, but she also didn't want to lead him in the wrong direction either. StarClan, what should I do?

Taking a deep breath, Cinderheart meowed "Nightscar..." she started slowly "You're a great friend and all, and I love you. But like a brother. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I also don't want to lead you on in anyway that would give you that idea..." the she-cat stopped. It had to have been the hardest thing she had to say. But deep down, even unknown to Cinderheart, her love for him with further.

Nightscar listening to the she-cat as she talked to him. Maybe he shouldn't have blurted out the 'I love you, Cinderheart' part, but he had just been talking an it came out. he slowly blinked, as his mind slowly wrapped around her words.
A small hurt filled him when she said she loved him as a brother, but he never let it show. His ears stayed upright his eyes still held that strong, unwavering gleam, and his features never fell.
"I understand, Cinderheart." he mewed softly. "Don't think you have to worry about being nice to me. I just viced my mind."
He smiled easily. He knew the she-cat felt bad. Yes, it hurt, but he would survive. He slowly stood up, his leg stiff from sitting to long and padded closer to the she-cat. He gently licked her ear, whispering the next words.
"Don't ever do something your heart doesn't want. I'll always be here for you....no matter what."
He stood there for a moment before slowly padding toward the medicine cat den. He felt a different confidence in him and he wondered in cinderheart would make him stop again.[/center]

Cinderheart gave a week smile as Nightscar replied to her. At least he understood. The she-cat still felt bad about it, and she could tell he did to. But she just couldn't live a lie. "Thanks, Nightscar." she whispered as she watched her dear friend go off to the medicine cat den. What a day. One she would never forget.

She had shared so much with him about her past. So much. Most of it the older cats in the clan knew, but she had never spoken about it untill tonight; and it felt good to have it out. Thank you StarClan, for sending him to us. Bless him, and bless his sister.
