The Quest for Catmint

Firehawk saw the black stretch of land a few fox lengths away. She paddded up to the two-leg path. She looked both directions and found no monsters coming. She ran across like a single streak of red. "Come on Fawnstep" she yowled across the path.

The sticky black tar stood out painfully against the melting white snow, it's black surface seemed alien-like to the pure snow covered ground. While the sun seemed to beat down on it's unusually sticky surface. Gulping the jittery she-cat's leaf-green gaze seemed to glitter amongst the curly heat waves that poured from the air.

Shuddering she knew the two-leg monsters wouldn't possibly appear this time of the season, but anything was possible. With all precautions she slithered her front ginger coated paw onto the tar. At once she whipped it back, afraid of the invisible monster that stood in her path. With glazed eyes she watched it roar towards her, closer--closer.

Closing her eyes she expected immediate death, but with clenched teeth and shaking paws she cracked one emerald orb open. With a blink the emerald's twin seemed to respond and it too opened. The monster was gone. It had all been part of her imagination.

With a terror filled heart she choked down her horrors and slid forward, as soon as her paws touched the tar she sprinted forward, her fur glinting in the sun's powerful rays.
"Lead--the way." she panted, beads of sweat dribbled from her nose, while her eyes watered from the irregular fumes.

Firehawk shook her head sometimes the clan cats got to worked up over the paths. You see that really big two-leg nest that way" she asked flicking her tail. It was a good ways away still but one could easily spot it.

Fawnstep nodded slowly, the she-cat had seemed slightly annoyed with her response to crossing the two-leg path.
"I-I'm sorry, I had always been a jittery cat." Pausing she closed her eyes tightly and decided she'd let it off with a slight joke, "But then again anything could scare me these days." she mused quietly.

"I assume the catmint is located beyond that fence." she murmured faintly. Nodding to herself she shot off with this unknown speed. She wasn't much of a cat for physical endurance but she wasn't a lazy kitty-pet. She also had some warrior training and with this it had taught her everything she had needed to take care of herself.

"Yep" Firehawk meowed following the she-cat. Maybe Heart would come with her this time. She had almost gotten her friend to come with her and Icewish. Then at the last minute, Heart decided against it.

Fawnstep leaped the fence at once, her paws only touching the wooden stakes for a half-second before she was once again touching the ground. Lifting her delicate nose to the air she immediately identified the catmint.

Racing forward she let out a delight purr at the sight. Many bushels of catmint sprouted from the ground before her. Quickly she dove forward digging at the roots, completely oblivious to her surroundings.

As the tender roots grew in sight, she scratched and bit at the furiously, she needed as much as she could carry. As soon as she was finished she carefully picked the leaves up with her jaws.</sup>
