The small figure in the den slowly lifted it's head ears twitching as sounds from outside slowly woke her up. A new scent drifted into her nose as she came to her senses.
I must have missed Mistkit and Snowkit's apprentice ceremony. she thought slowly getting up. Oh well...you'll see other's Speckledpaw.
The she-cat slowly got up stretching feeling the stiffness in her paws and legs. She slowly padded out of the den and blinked in the sunlight. Wow that was different. It had been raining forever. She slowly padded out of the den and toward the fresh kill pile. Well now that they had at lest two kits out f the nursery she wondered which cat would fill it. She started looking around for her stuttering mentor, Lionstrike, to see what they were doing. In reality they hadn't done much in the first place. She sighed when she didn't see the ginger tom anywhere.
A sneeze threatened her nose and she wiggled it walking a little ways. She tried to hold it back but couldn't and let out a loud sneeze which in turn blew dust into her face. She went to open he eyes and bits of dust flew into her eyelids. She let out a yowl of pain and batted at her eyes to get the dust.
"Holy Starclan! My eyes!" she yowled still trying to get the dust out.

I live in the shadows, hiding from my pain

Ravenpaw's restless body struggled to get more sleep in the apprentice den. After the ceremony, he was promised training by tomorrow. So to save up on energy, he decided to try and get some rest. But it was obviously not working.

His black body lay on the comfortable bed of moss, his eyes half closed as they stared blankly at the den's exit. The den was so different than the nursery...it seemed less protected and comforting. It made Ravenpaw a little sick to his stomach when he thought about how much he missed the old days where there wasn't a care in the world. And he was protected and safe.

But those times were over. Now he was facing the outside world, and he needed to stop looking for the comfort or guidance of others. He needed to be like his father before he left the Clan: strong and able to protect himself at any causes. Not the cowardly kit of his past.

Suddenly a yowl startled him away from his thoughts, instincts guiding his mind as he quickly heaved himself up, racing out of the den in search of danger. But as he gazed around he saw one of his denmates in need, her eyes seeming to be in pain.

Padding up to the struggling she-cat he meowed, "Stop making such a fuss or everyone will start to think there's rogues attacking us because your so loud." Ravenpaw narrowed his eyes in thought. M-maybe I shouldn't be too harsh...No! I have to take Raven's place! This is what he would say, right...?

Deciding to sound more caring for just this one time he meowed, "Are you ok? Or is it bad enough that you need to see Fawnstep?"</sup>

Speckledpaw slumped to the ground as the burning got worse. she tried blinking but it just made it worse. She quickly licked her paw and tried rubbing it over her eyes. It helped a little bit but not much.
She heard one of her den mates pad over and snap something at her. She brought her lips back in a snarl but stopped herself as he asked if she was okay.
"It's just dust. I'll get it out in a minute." she snapped, finally able to blink without it hurting. She finally pulled herself together she sat up and kept blinking. She was finally able to see the den mate talking to her. She was slightly startled to see Ravenpaw. They hadn't really talked. but she really didn't talk to anyone anymore.
