Tangled Around Your Paws

Tanglepaw exploded from the camp's exit with a yowl of excitement, his fur seemed to stick out from very direction. But this soon ended as his excited squeal of excitement was followed by a clap of thunder, rain soon pelted his ginger encased fur.

Blinking he narrowed his eyes up at the sky, he wasn't exactly looking forward to training in such conditions, but he shrugged it off. He had to be positive, he had to think of this as a challenge instead of a drawback.

Turning his gaze to Riverstar he let out a small yawn,
"Well I suppose this might be--a little different from your first training session?" he mused jokingly. Well it was supposed to be funny. Shrugging he padded forward scenting the air he meowed,

"I presume you'll be testing my sense of smell sometime today, so I'll just save you some trouble and get this over with." pausing he opened his mouth and let everything drift in.

"I smell soggy earth, a rabbit hole--well I think that's what I smell." Narrowing his gaze he couldn't possibly figure anything else out. The rain was making it much too hard.

<sup>Riverspirit was starting to regret starting training in the first place. It was horrible weather, and both cats could neither see anything. She couldn't even train Tanglepaw's sense of smell because it was raining too hard! It sure wasn't the greatest day.

Rolling her eyes at Tanglepaw's first two comments, she sighed. "Maybe we should wait until tomorrow for this...for StarClan's sake we barely can see anything in this rain!" Riverspirit grumbled, squinting her eyes against the rain.

Sighing once again, she decided to move on anyway. She just wanted to get it over with. Besides, Tanglepaw would be left bored in camp for the rest of the day if they stopped there.

"Anyway..." Riverspirit meowed, "Forget about scenting. We can concentrate on that later. It won't do any good to practice in the beginning of your training because you barely know the scents yet. Moving on," Riverspirit sprinted ahead, planning to go around WindClan's territory in a circle.

Stopping in her tracks she waited for Tanglepaw to catch up, then announced, "This is the stream that heads toward the moonpool. Some forest pray where the trees form beside the stream offer a more variety of prey.</sup>

Tanglepaw easily caught up with the she-cat,
"The moonpool's where Starclan is right?" he asked with wide eyes. He wasn't quite sure about Starclan, he knew that's where cats go after they die. But besides that he was pretty much clueless, he kind of thought it was a hoax to began with. After you die your just dead, right?

Shaking his head he cleared his thoughts within a few seconds. Cocking his head to the side he studied the stream. Although it was raining it was still flowing strongly into the lake, as if nothing could stop it.

That's how he was going to be when he was a warrior, nothing could stop him. Turning to his mentor he meowed,
"What's next Riverspirit?" Flashing her a devious grin he raced ahead, his paws thudded across the earth. With a strong leap from the back of his legs he cleared the stream within a matter of seconds or so he thought. With a squeal he landed in the midst of swirling water.

It pushed onwards as if he only was a mere pebble. It tugged him downwards, deeper and deeper until his head was merged beneath the tumbling depths. He tried desperately to break to the surface but the current was too strong, but he kept fighting and fighting.

<sup>Before Riverspirit could reply to the apprentice's question, he was already racing off to who knows where. Snorting in frustration, she opened her mouth to call after him, but it was replaced with a sigh when he tumbled into the stream.

Pelting after him, she dove into the water, swimming with powerful swipes of her legs. It was soon before she found the drowning Tanglepaw, and soon enough she also grasped his scruff, swimming back up to the surface of the water.

Weak from swimming from being so unused to using her limbs so much in such a fast current, it was a bit of a struggle to go back on the surface. Cursing under her breath, she lunged at the earth, clawing at it until she was half way on it.

Laying Tanglepaw on the ground, her weight gave in to the water, her grip on the ground slipping away. Giving the last of her strength away she pulled herself up, panting. Dizzy from the struggle she weakly got up, shaking the water from her pelt.

"Great StarClan!" Riverspirit exclaimed, glaring at Tanglepaw with an icy cold glare. "Tanglepaw, what did you think you were doing? Charging into unknown surroundings like that? Your lucky I even decided to rescue you, you little..."

Riverspirit calmed herself down, then got up. "The next time you go ahead of me, disobey me, or anything that relates to the subject..." Riverspirit calmly meowed, though rage still caressed her voice. "We won't be training for the rest of the day, nor tomorrow. You will be assigned to the elders until you are able to train again. Got it?"

Maybe it was better to have a perfect apprentice...</sup>

Here she was lecturing him as he was gasping--no choking for air. Coughing and sputtering he spat up handfuls of water, with a shaky sigh he let his own green gaze glare at the she-cat,
"I was just trying to have some fun!" he growled through the pouring rain. Another series of coughing and hacking soon followed his irritated growl. Giving Riverspirit his best dirty look he meowed through clenched teeth,

"Fine I'll listen, and I'll try my best I'll become the best apprentice of Windclan!" Snorting he meowed,
"Just you watch." He didn't feel like having fun anymore, no infact Tanglepaw felt like proving her right. So he became the perfect apprentice and padded towards his mentor. Dipping his head he meowed,
"What's next?"

<sup>Riverspirit swipped her tongue around her jaws, satisfied. "Good. Now then, next we're going ThunderClan's border..." and with that, Riverspirit sped off.

Once again after a few moments of running, she stopped dead in her tracks, glancing over her shoulder to catch sight of Tanglepaw. "This is the border that is set between ThunderClan and WindClan. If either cat from both Clans sets foot off another Clan's border, he or she will be chased off, or taken to the opposite Clan's camp.

"We mark this border daily, and patrol it to make sure no pesky ThunderClan cat crosses the mark. Any questions?"</sup>

<sup>Tanglepaw shook his ginger coated head and opened his mouth, although the rain seemed to wash away all scents, Windclan's border scent was very strong. Cocking his head to the side he opened his mouth once more, drawing in all of the scents,

"It seems like Thunderclan was here not too long ago." he meowed slightly halfheartedly. He wished he could have met some Thunderclan cats. Perhaps they could have gotten into a border skirmish. Then he could prove to his mentor that he wasn't just some bratty-annoying apprentice.

Bringing his gaze to the sky he wondered if all New-leaf's were like this, constant-dangerous storms. Horrendous thunder claps, and blinding flashes of lightning. Turning his gaze to Riverspirit he asked,
"How long were you an apprentice? Who was your mentor? Did you have any friends?" All these questions flew from his mouth before he could stop them.</sup>

<sup>Riverspirit first responded to Tanglepaw's remark about ThunderClan by slightly opening her mouth herself, carefully seprating the rain and air from ThunderClan's smell. He was right. But it didn't seem to threatening.

"Correct." she meowed, nodding in acknowledgement. But if only ThunderClan actually did cross their border. It would be fun, and it would bring a whole lot more excitement to the rainy day. Shrugging, she continued walking to their next destination.

It was only a second before Tanglepaw started questioning her. Grunting Riverspirit meowed, "This has nothing to due with training, plus it's none of your buisne..." Riverspirit stopped herself. Actually, it didn't really matter if she answered or not. They had to get to know each other anyway, right?

"One, I was an apprentice eleven moons. Two, my mentor was Frostbite. Three, my friends were Stargaze and Eclipseclaw." replied the gray she-cat, then she suddenly stopped. "This is WindClan's hunting grounds. As you can see, there are hills in this area, which is home to a bundle of prey."

Turning to Tanglepaw she meowed, "Questions? If not, we can play a little game while we tour around."</sup>

<sup>ooc: I thought Frostbite was her mentor? Remember their first training session and Eclipseclw barged in on them.

Tanglepaw stared wide eyes at the she-cat,
"You were an apprentice for eleven moons? That's a very, very long time." he meowed in astonishment. Shaking his head he was determined to make sure he wasn't a nuisance and that he was a good apprentice. No way was he going to be an apprentice for eleven moons, specially with his joyous mentor.

"You were friends with Eclipseclaw?" he meowed slightly more shocked then before. All he knew was the she-cat was fiery, constantly angry, and very nosy. Was it possible for her to have any friends? Narrowing he gaze he muttered, "I didn't think it was possible for that she-cat to have friends."

With a leap he bounded after his mentor, scanning the area that she described he meowed with perked ears,
"A game? What kind of game can we play in this awful weather?"</sup>

( OH Your right XD -changes post- Lol I actually thought Eclipsepaw's mentor was Frosbite XP )

<sup>Riverspirit rolled her eyes at Tanglepaw's comment on how long she was an apprentice, "Yes. Well...I was a bit of a trouble-maker I guess." Riverspirit shrugged, concentrating on not slipping on the wet, slippery grass that was dappled in rain.

Narrowing her green eyes at his disrespectful opinion of her friend she snapped, a growl slowly rising in her throat, "Don't talk bad about your Clanmates. Besides, no one ever gave her a chance, which was why she was always so lonely and sharp-tongued." Riverspirit explained, calming down.

"But..." the warrior continued, remembering back to when she was an apprentice, "I also hated Eclipseclaw, we were enemies when we were apprentices. But as time went on we became friends." Riverspirit concluded, no longer paying attention to the rain laced grass.

The wet grass suddenly shoved up in her face snatched her back from her memories, which was when she realized she had lost control of her footing and fell straight down on the ground below. Spatting out bits of earth and blades of grass, she pulled herself up, shaking her pelt.

"Geh...anyway..." she grumbled, licking her chest fur. "Even though we're going to play games much more better than this, since it's raining and we don't know each other too well, we'll play this.

"All we have to do is give your opponent a certain subject, then then the player says what they like in the subject. Example, say you said prey. And I would say thrush, because it's my favorite prey. After we answered a certain amount of subjects, let's say...five, then one cat gives out a subject, and you have to answer it by saying the cat's favorite thing in that subject.

"I'll go first." Riverspirit declared. "Activity."</sup>

( That game was just now randomly thought up in my mind )

<sup>Tanglepaw couldn't help himself but laugh at Riverspirit's pitiful attempt at mentoring him. Apparently he was the better cat, for he didn't go off and trip on well--basically nothing. But you are the type of cat to go drown yourself in a little creek. Tanglepaw snorted, that really didn't matter anyway, he was all new to the world.

Perking her ears at the game he meowed in confusion,
"So you saying after we answer questions for five different subjects we have to--" pausing he went over what she said one more time before continuing, "Like a....quiz each other on it?" he asked at last, this she-cat was quite confusing.

But he shrugged it off, it didn't really matter if he played right. So the first question was his favorite activity, well since he was new to the whole apprentice thing he didn't really have much to choose from. Since his whole life beforehand was spent in the nursery, but he decided to go with a nursery classic. Play fighting. But since he didn't want to sound like a kit he just answered with,

"Fighting, not arguing or anything stupid like that. But battle--fighting. Stuff like that, I feel amazing when I end up the winner out of a scuffle." Turning to Riverspirit he meowed,

"And my question is--What's you favorite battle move?"</sup>

<sup>Riverspirit smiled. Fighting, eh? Looks like they shared something in common. Riverspirit at this age, too, loved fighting. It was her best subject, and she enjoyed it more than she did any training session. But it was the same with a lot of apprentices, too.

Licking her muzzle, she thought only for a moment as battle moves swarmed in her mind. But only one stood out: the death bite. It ended a cat's life in one swift movement, and it felt satisfying to win the battle.

"Death bite." she replied, but regretted it. If his mentor's battle move was something that shouldn't be used unless in a real emergancy, he might start killing enemy cat with the battle move. But Riverspirit calmed down after more paniced thinking. She was his mentor! She can choose when to teach something, right? She'll just have to teach the death bite last.

Going on with the game she meowed, "Dream?"</sup>

<sup>"The death bite?" pausing he narrowed his eyes in deep thought. He remembered the elders saying something about that the move was only used if you were facing a dangerous opponent who was threatening your life--or if you were in an emergency. But he shrugged it off, the move would most likely end up his favorite as well once he learned it.

Dream? The tom cocked his head to the side in wonderment,
"Do you mean like when your dreaming when you sleep or what I want to be when I'm older." Pausing he continued quickly,

"Because if your talking about a dream I had, do I have something to tell you." Pausing he drew in a large breath,

"Ok this one time I dreamed that I was the strongest--no quickest. No wait I think it was both--well wait. Hmm-oh yeah! I was both, anyways there were these three cats and they were the scariest toms alive! They were huge with dangerous claws, and razor sharp teeth." Blinking he drew in another breath,

"Wait isn't Razorkit named that? Why is his name that anyway, he doesn't have razor sharp teeth--or claws! He's the laziest cat alive! All he does is sleep, or complain. Or do stupid things. I think his names is seriously misleading, he should really get it changed to Lazykit or Idonothingbutyellatothersforbeingbetterthenhimkit, or something like that." Suddenly the tom stopped, the thudding rain had actually brought him to his senses.

He couldn't really remember why he was talking about Razorkit, actually he had no idea. Oh yeah the dream! Snorting he rolled his eyes at himself, stupid-stupid-stupid.

"Anyways back to the dream, they all started circling me and I couldn't escape! So I had to fight them all to the death. You know what? i think I actually used the death bite, it was quite useful. But then they just kept coming back alive, and I was about to kill them off for sure but then Jadekit woke me up because she's a mouse-brain."

<sup>Riverspirit felt her whole body shake and her lips tighten as she tried to control herself. Each step they took was a struggle not to just tumble over. But she was reaching her limit. It would be a very bad example for him if she didn't control the bubbling inside, but if she didn't let it go she would explode.

Instead, she tried to distract herself by replying. Though it didn't work out well. "V-very...amusing..." That's all she could take. No, she wasn't angry, but just the opposite.

She started laughing.

Riverspirit stopped herself when an explosion of laughter irrupted from her, feeling a bit more controled. "I-I'm s-s-sorry..." she meowed shakily in fight to contain her urge to laugh with giggled here and there. "Your dream was...very amusing." Straightening up she continued, "I sure wish I had a...dream like that.

"Or am I already living the dream?" she meowed with a smirk as she narrowed her eyes. "Maybe I should find out...?" Riverspirit stopped in her tracks, and after a few moments pause she lunged at Tanglepaw, pinning him to the ground. "Or maybe your the one who's the most fastest and strongest. Let's find out." Riverspirit challenged with a grin. She couldn't help it, her apprentice side controlled her now.</sup>

( I had fun hearing Tanglepaw tell his story about his dream XD I can read it over and over again )

<sup>"Of course I'm the strongest-bestest warrior around!" he boasted from under the she-cat. Tangelpaw had never been in a fight quite like this before, of course he wrestled with his siblings, but he never was in a situation where a cat that was double his size was pinning him to the ground.

So he did what any new apprentice would do, he kicked. With a grunt he sent up three or more kicks at a time, first with his left back leg, and then second his right leg and back to his left leg. The tom went on doing this until his legs were sore, so he did what all young cats would--and could do.

The rain was pouring harder now, which made the ground even slipperier, perfect he thought devilishly. Flipping himself onto his belly, he instantly slid out from under the she-cat. Whipping around he launched his own attack at her, with a screech he landed neatly on her back.</sup>
