Hey guys! Sorry I've been MIA for the past week. I meant to post sooner but things have been a little crazy (in a good way!). As I mentioned in the cbox, Shawn and I are now engaged! We celebrated our three year anniversary together on August 6, and that evening, he proposed to me! We met while we were in college as summer interns at the software company where we now both work (both in R&D, but different departments). We share an apartment together about a mile away from work and have been very happy together for a long while now. We both knew that marriage was in the cards for us from the start and have always felt that we were meant to be, but now it's finally official! Shawn had been saving and preparing for this proposal for two years and it completely blew me away.
Some details, for those interested! Apologies for this being a bit long. Shawn stayed home from work that day and I went in. He told me to be ready to leave at 4pm and to take Friday off for a "surprise" -- he did not tell me anything about what we would be doing. He came into work to pick me up, and we walked across the street to this fountain... which needs some explanation before I continue!
While we were interns, the company offered apartment housing and we both lived in the same complex. Before we started dating, the two of us used to go to this fountain down the street from the apartments to talk. When we both got jobs at the company, we moved to the area, right around the corner from where we lived as interns. We can't go to our old fountain now because the building that owns it put up no trespassing signs after we moved, so Shawn has been looking for another one in the area.
So anyway, this new fountain Shawn found is on a small lake, bigger and more beautiful than our old one. Gorgeous path around it, benches, little bridge over a stream, flowers, and lots of trees, with fish, ducks, and geese in the lake. Simply amazing and so romantic! As we were walking it started to drizzle (had been overcast all day), but we didn't mind. He walked me down the path and started explaining how he'd been looking for a new fountain for us, pointing at the great features and scenery. He asked me if I liked the new location. I said I did, it was perfect and even better than our old fountain. Then he got on one knee in the rain and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!
We walked around in the rain a bit feeling all giddy, holding hands. Afterward, we walked home and he had this beautiful arrangement set up for me. We called our families and friends, made dinner, and watched the National Treasure movies -- which we also watched on our first date, very sentimental of him. He really outdid himself.
Here are a few photos of the fountain. Since Shawn was the only one to know (none of our friends or family did -- he wanted it to be a very personal proposal with just us), we did not have a photographer at the ready to take pictures of the occasion, although we plan to go to the fountain in a few weeks before it gets too cold with our photographer friend Jacylnn to take some pictures of us there.
And here are some pictures of the arrangement I returned home to! One of my favorite movies is Disney's Lilo & Stitch, so there are Stitch & Angel plushies in wedding attire as the centerpiece. There is also a little Lego wedding cake topper in front of them (Shawn loves Legos), a very fine bottle of wine with wine glasses, this year's Twelve Days of Christmas Hallmark ornament (which we began collecting when we started dating), a display tree for the ornament collection, a sweet book called Owl Always Love You, beautiful Chinese lanterns, the box the ring arrived in, a stunning lit floral display, rose petals, and tea candles. The white sheet is super soft minky fabric, my favorite.
Finally, here is a picture of the ring Shawn picked out for me, with an even better 360 view here. We have dubbed it "Sir Sparkles." Those are two sapphires on either side of the diamond (my favorite color is blue).
All in all it's been quite the breathtaking experience. We don't have a specific wedding date set and probably won't for a few years now, but we're delighted to have finally made our marriage declaration official.
Hope to catch up on everything I've missed in the next week or so!
