Leaf-bare. The bane of every Clan cat's existence. Prey was scarce, herbs were scarcer, and sickness was an ever constant threat hanging over their heads. Blizzardshard had been running himself ragged, up on his paws from dawn to well after sunset. Every morning, Shiningheart woke from her nest with a fear that she'll hear him coughing. He'd always felt the need to stay out longer than some of the other cats because of his longer fur. He could take the cold better than the short-pelts.
Despite the difficulties the season brought upon them, leaf-bare was also her time to shine. Because of her pure white pelt, the prey never saw her coming before it was too late. It was probably why Owlstar had chosen her to mentor Hailpaw. They both had white coats and slim frames, though that second part might change once Hailpaw grew a little and put on some muscle. No worries about that though; she had a muscle head for a mate who could grapple with a badger if it wasn't such a mouse-brained move.
Today, while it wouldn't be Hailpaw's first time out, it would be the first time she hadn't taken him out herself. She'd left it to her sister, Venomwind, to tell the young one where to meet her. She hadn't quite decided on what they were going go to do yet, but that was the fun part. She wanted Hailpaw's opinion on what they should do before she decided.
Typically, the season called for as much hunting as the cats possibly could. But with the unknown threat of something or something being 'beneath us', she wondered if he'd want to start battle training early. He did only get his apprentice name recently, after all.
