It had been many moons since she and Crimsonclaw had become mates. Her drowsy, green gaze drifted toward the sleeping form of the big brownish-red tom beside her, his flank rising peacefully up and down. She nuzzled his cheek, her body pressing against his as she breathed in his musky scent. It was hard to think that her once grumpy mentor would become the move endearing and important part of her life in such a way as this. Sorrelstrike could remember her ceremony in finally becoming a warrior in progress, the sunlight shining brightly in the clearing as if congratulating her and her bright gaze looking up proudly as Snowstar announced her as Sorrelpaw. Yet all that excitement and happiness was dragged away in one word. Crimsonclaw. The name tore her insides, and she was unable to hide her anger and disappointment at the leader's choice. Why him? He was known for being the meanest cat in the Clan, not even counting for his strictness toward his apprentices. Yet, it turned out to be the most important decision that shaped the tortoiseshell's life. Of course, it was quite a bumpy start. She was stern on not being patient and a 'good little apprentice', rebelling against Crimsonclaw's strict schedule, mentoring, and foul attitude. Although she did in fact learn from him and trained as hard as she could, it was most certainly not the best and preferred way of her mentor. She was hard on the track in showing him how much she despised him being her mentor, and she thought she had succeeded. This went on, and Crimsonclaw was patient, but the more they trained and spent time together the more Sorrelstrike grew to know Crimsonclaw, looked past his mean look, and learned to take the bad and turn it into fun and good. She transitioned from rebelling stubbornly to being cheeky and joking, and sooner or later she actually grew fond of the old lump. Slowly but surely, the feisty apprentice and the serious mentor grew closer. Sorrelstrike reminisced on her apprentice days which just felt like yesterday, getting the excuse to be around Crimsonclaw yet not knowing the reason why she would want to. She was so oblivious back then; but so was Crimsonclaw. It was once she became a warrior that things got heated. That they finally got their sense. Although even that was quite a journey, with Sorrelstrike remembering Crimsonclaw being a big jerk for some reason (the she-cat honestly couldn't recall what started the argument, only her reaction to it afterward) and then all the shenanigans that followed afterward with Crimsonclaw making her jealous by flirting with a random visitor and her attacking the she-cat, which all weirdly crumbled down to them confessing their love. For a long time, and even a little to this day, Sorrelstrike still had quite a hard time believing they were even mates. Not only did she not except to have a mate so young, but it was also hard comprehending she was mates with her old, grumpy mentor. She often, like now, thought about the past and how conflicting it was now, and how if she would have ever told her past self that she was in love with Crimsonclaw her past self would never believe her then proceed to claw her ears off for suggesting such a thing. Sorrelstrike thought that it made her love for the tom stronger just because of how unpredictable and lucky she was. Smiling, she tucked her muzzle into Crimsonclaw's fur even more, then closed her eyes. But an itching curiosity kept her up. "Crimsonclaw...?" Sorrelstrike ventured, hoping he wasn't completely knocked out and she had woken him up from whatever the ancient tom dreamed about. She sugar-coated his awakening and blinded him from him being angry at her for interrupting his sleep for a stupid question by purring, leaning closer to him, and licking his nose. Secretly, it was sometimes hard to be physically close to him, just because it was still settling in that she had a mate, especially considering the fact that it was her mentor. When they became mates, for quite a long time she didn't touch him nearly as much as she should have as his lover, and although she was better, she was still in her transitioning stage, and this was one of the rare moments where she was this close to him. It wasn't because she didn't love him, she always thought guiltily, it was just hard getting used to. After all, she knew him most of her life as her trainer. "You remember that fight soon after I became a warrior, right? Crimsonclaw could feel the she-cat stir against him, pressing her delicate nose into his fur - curling closer, closer. The tom inhaled her scent until it consumed him. His eyes remained closed and a soft snore left his lips - he was sound asleep and he still wanted her. This want, this need was almost involuntary. He hadn't asked for it. It just happened. He remembered the sound of his claws drumming against the soft, peaty earth as Snowstar informed him of his next assignment. Sorrekit she had mentioned dryly, carelessly. Neither of them had had even registered her name in all honesty. It was business. There were several apprentices before her and there would be several after her. She was just another mind to mold - a mouth to feed. There wasn't this spark or sudden realization when he saw her for the first time. She was your average apprentice - small, soft, new. He could feel the fright shed her in waves, just as any other she was terrified of him. But that melted in mere days, Sorrelpaw proved to be a difficult apprentice - a challenge. She left him pacing through the night in desperation, he couldn't pin her down, he couldn't control her. And as she got older, grew into her body, she began to control him. She had wormed her way into his mind and set up camp. It was devastating for Crimsonclaw. He was perfectly fine living his life in solitude, he looked forward to it. But her teasing, snide remarks, and careless touches lingered beneath every thought. He was entirely possessed mind, body, and soul. And he wanted nothing to do with it. The last moon of their apprenticeship he purposely increased her progress, he wanted to get rid of her and rid himself of these thoughts. He was her mentor for Starclan's sake! It was almost a felony - he was sure of it. But the moment she became a warrior he felt her absence like a blow to the chest. It was heavy, hanging on his heart. He needed her so bad it hurt. Crimsonclaw was tired of pushing her away - so he did the only reasonable thing he could think of - he had to make her jealous. At the time a flirtatious loner by the name of Khaki had visited the camp and Crimsonclaw made it his mission to completely embarrass himself. Remarkably it worked - not only did Sorrelstrike want to rip his entrails from his body but she admitted her undying love - and happily ever after they were declared mates. A brief smile flitted across the tom's lips and he nuzzled the she-cat in return. He wasn't a particularly happy cat but she warmed something fierce inside him. Her gentle voice lulled him awake, calling him into consciousness. The red tom blinked a few time, his leaf green eyes adjusting to the harsh morning light. He furrowed his brow, watching her mouth move, the words unfamiliar to his ears, "Slow down - what was that?" The tom meowed drowsily, his voice deep and gruff. The she-cat repeated herself almost teasingly and Crimsonclaw felt himself smirk slightly in response. He knew what she was talking about but he wanted to play coy, "If I remember correctly it had something to do with you being a huge bitch." [bg=743a38]

Sorrelstrike instantly shuffled away from his warmth, her fur fluffing up in defiance. Not to be cruel, but the whole Clan would agree that if anyone started a quarrel, it would be the grumpiest cat in camp. Her unfortunate mate choice was always causing someone to get their fur ruffled. Look at him, she was the only one who even wanted his company! He shouldn't try his luck and risk ridding his only friend like that. Although a muttering voice in the back of her head told her that the feisty tortoiseshell was just as bad, in a different way of course. She was very short-tempered, and throughout her days have caused a lot of fights because she got ticked off at someone for saying something the wrong way or doing something small. At least, though, she was friendly enough to gain friends, so she had some-what of an advantage over him. Nevertheless, he was always the stupid one who caused any of their disagreements! Crimsonclaw was always so serious and mean whenever he said anything, so of course it would cause a bad reaction! Did he really expect her to take any of his shit? Even so, thanks to his stupid remark, he got her questioning what really happened right after her warrior ceremony. But pride would not let her think that Crimsonclaw was being nothing but a jerk during that time, and she wouldn't have ignored him without a good reason. Puffing up her chest she responded with clumsy dignity, "Oh? Says the cat who's labeled for his bad attitude--" pausing, now that she was seeing him more clearly after moving away from him and anger sparking her newly found energy, she noticed that the red tom's fur was sticking up the wrong way in specific areas due to awkward positioning during the night. "--and apparently your bad looks!" Sorrelstrike hastily got up and hovered over him, covering him with rapid licks of her tongue to smooth out those silly looking spots. He had to savor some sort of respect from others. Inbetween licks she hissed, "I'm serious though! All I remember from that whole fiasco was you flirting with that stupid loner to make me jealous!" With a roll of her eyes she added, "Which was very honorable of you, by the way." [bg=d9d7aa]
