This is because, like most members of RiverClan, Quailstep's pelt is thick and waterproof to help her while she is swimming so that her pelt does not get waterlogged and pull her down, making it harder for her to swim through the waters that gave RiverClan their name. The only thing that gives Quailstep a somewhat unique appearance is her pretty torbie pelt that is a mixture of light browns and ginger tabby markings that helps her to blend in with the muddy river bottom and also any trees that she finds herself navigating through. Also on her pelt are white patches that resemble new snow on a tree. The white is located on mainly her chest, belly, and legs with small patches of tabby spots on different places on her and stomach, also a little on her legs as well. Not only is her RiverClan lineage apparent in the characteristics of her pelt, but it is also visible in her build. Weighing in at almost 9 pounds, Quailstep is on the heavy side of most cats weight even though she isn't a very large, nor small cat. But that is typical for RiverClan cats. This is because with their usually large supply of fish that no other clans seem to want to touch, RiverClan tends to have a large supply of food, which make RiverClan cats full and at a healthy weight. Not only does her high supply of food have to do with her weight, but also her muscles used to paddle through RiverClans water and lounge and paw swiftly at her slippery prey. The only real thing that sets the young RiverClan warrior apart from her peers and clanmates are her beautiful eyes. They are both a gorgeous shade of bright blue that draw in anyone who talks to her. They almost seem transparent and almost look as if they are able to see right into ones soul. They are really a sight to see. Personality: In all honestly, Quailstep is, well... honest. Almost to the point to it being a flaw. It could also be called just plain blunt. Some may also consider it as just plain mean. Although most of the time, Quailstep has no idea that she may be hurting some-ones feelings when she is telling them the truth. This is mainly because Quailstep feels that everyone wants to hear what it is that she really thinks, not just some sugar-coated version of the truth that doesn't even sound like truth after being soaked in some-ones version of making the truth less painful and easier to handle. But the up side to Quailstep's bluntness, you can always trust Quailstep to tell you the truth. Along with being honest to a flaw, Quailstep is also extremely headstrong. When she gets her mind set on something, good luck in getting anything but that through to her. She is just about stubborn to no return and can't seem to be talked out of just about anything. And when it comes to her thoughts most of the time, it is almost like trying to tell a hawk not to fly or a fish not to swim, which is really close to Quailstep considering she is part of RiverClan. The bad thing about this though, is that she feels the need to question anyone who doesn't think the same as her, even if that someone is her leader and used to be her mentor back when she was still an apprentice. Even though Quailstep is open when it comes to her thoughts on some subjects, she is rather reserved when it comes to her emotions and feelings, and tries to keep them hidden away from anyone who asked, and would most likely say "Why don't you worry about your own business, instead of poking your nose into mine?" Or at least something along those lines. In a somewhat snappy and irritated voice. Which is one way that Quailstep has a tendency to drive anyone away that may seem to worry or care about her. But again, she is still generally sociable and open to others, unless of course, they ask about her personal feelings and/or emotions. Even thought Quailstep may be a little snappy when it comes to being asked about her feelings, that doesn't mean that she is easily annoyed. There are some sensitive subjects with her, as long as you stay away from them, she is a great cat. And even when being made fun of, or when not being able to do something right that she has been working on for a long time, Quailstep is not easily discouraged or annoyed very easily, and simply brushes it off her shoulder and shrugs. This is one of her good traits, and is a good mentor for those smartass apprentices that no one else can seem to handle. This trait also makes her good at taking care of young warriors who are too cocky for their own good. History: Being born the smallest of a litter of three, and having two older brothers, Hawk-kit and Crowkit. Quailkit had to be a fighter even from the beginning in order to not be excluded or lest in the dust while her brothers played games with the other kits in the nursery. And even when she was left out, her older brother, Voleclaw, who was born to her mother, Pebblefoot's, prior and first litter. And he was always there to entertain her when her other two siblings where not. This then led to Quailkit having a closer relationship to Voleclaw then to the litter mates who where her age. It also led to her being more mature then many other kits her age after being in the company of her warrior brother. She also knew much more about what was going on in the clans then maybe even some of the older cats in her clan, due to her brother being very informed and wanting to know everything going on. Then going and telling his kit sister almost everything he found out, except for the more details inappropriate for kits to know. At her apprentice ceremony, Quailkit was named Quailpaw, due to all cats having the suffix of their name changed from a kit to a paw to symbolize their place in the clan. Then having it changed to something else that described their personality, appearance, or skills omce they became a warrior. Her mentor was a senior warrior by the name of Hailstorm, who many though was going to become deputy at some point because of his skill in battle and cool head when in tight situations. And Quailpaw was exited to have him as her mentor because of this. The only thing was, many cats said that he is very hard on his apprentices, and Quailpaw somewhat hoped that was simply a rumor to scare the young cats who got him as their mentor. Hailstorm proved to be a tuff mentor. But it was in fact in the good kind of way. He did push Quailpaw quite a bit, but only as much as he know she could handle. And pushed her to be the best that she could be, and be a great warrior that he knew she could be and that he knew that his clan would need and appreciate one day. Even at times she wanted to simply give up because she was being pushed so hard by Hailstorm. Quailpaw's hardworking nature, and Hailstorm's odd but still inspirational pep-talks, Quailpaw never did really give up, and made it through her assessments with flying colors. When getting her warrior ceremony, Quailpaw was named Quailstep, for her swift speed on foot, and her non-stop proud and somewhat cocky stride. And although her two brothers where also given their ceremonies, Quailstep didn't pay much attention to them because her relationship with them had never been very close, and she was more interested in talking to her brother, Voleclaw, who she was closer to then almost anyone else in RiverClan. Although there was one other cat who Quailstep was very close to. And that was Kinktail who had been an apprentice with Quailstep, and had been named a warrior only around a moon before her, and even though they didn't talk much as kits, they became closer as they got older and closer to becoming warriors. And as they became warriors, Quailstep and Kinktail even became mates, and Quailstep became pregnant with his kits when she was the age of 20 moons. But, a few weeks before Quailstep gave birth to her litter of kits, Kinktail died form wounds inflicted onto him in a battle with ThunderClan. Quailstep was distraught upon hearing about her dead mate, but knew that she had to be there for her kits. When Quailstep gave birth, she had two kits. One was a stillborn she-cat that she named Lilykit, and the other was a perfectly healthy male who she named Nightkit because of his jet black pelt in which reminded her of the night. And even though she was broken from loosing her mate and one of her kits, she tried not to let it show in order to be there for her son as best she could. For the next six moons, Quailstep was cooped up in the nursery, which she wasn't too happy about because it reminded her of being a kit again. Not that there where any bad memories that where associated with the nursery, but it reminded her of being a kit and not being able to do anything, and having to do what everyone else told her to do even if that cat was an apprentice. So when Nightkit was named an apprentice, Quailstep was relieved. But what he did find odd, was that she was named to mentor her son. Normally, a kit wasn't given their mother as their mentor because they would be too soft on them and not train them as they should. But the leader of RiverClan knew that Quailstep wasn't going to be easy on Nightpaw just because he was her son. And that was true, Quailstep was goin to be anything but easy on the smart-mouth apprentice. Once Nightpaw was made a warrior and night Nightclaw after eight months of Quailstep's hard training sessions. Quailstep was finally free again and felt like she was a new warrior again, exept for the fact that she no longer had Kinktail there for her. On a quiet morning where it seemed like nothing was going to happen, ThunderClan stormed RiverClan camp. And in all the chaos, RiverClan managed to drive out ThunderClan. But not with ought casualties. The RiverClan deputy at the time who had been Hailstorm, Quailstep's old mentor, had been killed, and a new deputy had to be named. That cat was Quailstep, because of her honesty, hardworking nature, patience, leadership, and love for her clan and to keep it safe. It was then and there that Quailstep vowed to protect her clan no matter what and that her only goal in life was to do whatever she could to do the right thing for her clan.
