FINCHSTAR
pictures; x
Age: 29 moons
Gender: tom
Rank: leader
Clan: riverclan
Short Description: brown tabby and white tom with green eyes
Appearance:
You know how you see those leaders perched on that great little rock at the gathering, and they are all majestic and beautiful looking as they look down on all their little peasants? Well, you might think that about Finchstar when he's up there, looking high and mighty, but if he was mingled in with the rest of the gathered cats you wouldn't think particularly think that. Actually, you would probably think of him as a scrawny little wanna-be warrior. With that in mind, obviously we are going to indulge ourselves into his frame first. Like noted, he's a little scrawny. Maybe not as dramatic as the prior example portrayed him to be, but he sure doesn't have any muscle either. Although, he is pretty tall, so I guess he isn't all that bad. I mean hey, at least he can run fast. Even though the bad part about his tallness is it makes him quite clumsy.
To transition on something more positive, lets get away from his frame and move onto his fur and other details of his body. Like for example, his nose is a nice light, delicate pink. Sounds cute, but it kind of blends in with is already light-colored appearance. Sorry, forgot we were trying to be positive. Anyway, his green eyes are at least something that can't be complained about. His eyes are a relatively dark emerald green. But not too dark to be odd and overly contrasting with his overall appearance. Oh, and remember how it was mentioned prior that he was clumsy because of his long legs? Well, that isn't the only reason he's clumsy. He's actually extra clumsy because, believe it or not, he has a cute little stump for a tail. It's long enough to not be called 'Rabbitstar' instead, but its definitely not long enough to even come up to half of a tail. It's more of a 1/3 of a tail. It is cute, though, with a fluffy white underside and a smooth tabby upper-side.
His fur is also nothing to complain about, especially considering its nice correlation with the sun. His fur gleams a nice, pale, light golden color when exposed to the light in the sky, which is quite odd considering his coloring isn't unique let alone something that you would think reacts to lighting at all (aka FIRESTAR). His coloring, by the way, is white. But it seemed as if half of his head and body were dipped in some kind of light brown tabby sauce. Think of icecream dipped in chocolate syrup or a chicken nugget dipped in some sort of dipping sauce. Yeah that's what he is.
Personality:
Though he is much more suited to be a medicine cat rather than be placed in such high authority, Finchstar has the personality of a harmless kit. Not the type who is fond of strict rules and regulations, he carelessly is subjected to letting cats off the hook for misbehavior, no matter how severe the crime, his compassion a blinding fault that leads him into much criticism. Though he is guided by a warm heart and a calm attitude, it is not the only reason for him to avoid being assertive whenever possible. This big boy is as shy as a bird. He might seem to act as if he purely makes his decisions with compassion and understanding, and that might be true to some extent, but reality hits you pretty hard when dealing with the truth. He hates conflict. He hates confrontation. Wearing a mask of butterflies and rainbows to save himself from facing argument and heat is just part of the daily job for the poor guy. Maybe that's why he is so good at it.
Some do see through his little mask, unfortunately, but only if you pay attention to his actions. For example, the closeness to his deputy and senior warriors. It might be because they are all close friends and get along real well, but not due to idle conversation. Finchstar forced this bond due to his insecure nature. Not in a mean, in-your-face way, but where it gets to the point where there is meeting after meeting after meeting in order to establish simple things such as border patrols, out-of-boundaries trouble, or even "check-ups" where really Finchstar just wants to make sure he still has the confidence of his warriors, and that he isn't screwing anything up. His deputy gets the most of the misfortune, getting subtle, daily, swift remarks about this or that, which usually results in a few comforting words just to calm the leader down.
Finchstar obviously puts on a good show, the other Clans being a great audience to his little act of kindness and the good guy routine. He is well known for his unnerving hospitality, and many think unwise of such behavior, which makes him the center of ridicule. Though not the biggest fan, he is very often the center of attention when it comes to wise advice, and though he feels very uncomfortable about it, he can be very wise with advice or suggestions without knowing it, which is sad, because if he tried and if he had the confidence he would make a much more wiser leader.
History:
Love. The word that sends Finchstar instantly into his shell. The meaning that brings foul memories into his distorted mind. The feelings that bring wistfulness into his lonely heart.
Before we indulge into that chapter in his life, let's start in the beginning. Being raised with two brothers isn't easy. The boys never knew their parents, but that was the last worry that threatened their minds. All they had to worry about was who would win today. How did poor Finchkit survive such rough games and draconian challenges? Well, he was just as determined and bouncy as his siblings. Though the destiny of a kittypet followed their parents, they dismiss the fact by becoming the best, and making sure no one takes the lead. Of course, Flashkit was often the winner, out-beating Finchkit and Birdkit due to size and strength. Of course, it was also a little unfair that on top of the abnormally sized Flashkit, the other two brothers were abnormally small. That was what made things all the more fun, though, and it wasn't rare for Finchkit or Birdkit to win.
What was the definition of 'winning' in these kits' case? It was pretty simple, actually. Winning the most games and competitions during the day. Whether that be winning a messy game of moss ball or being brave enough to venture outside of camp. At the end of the day, the winner was declared, granting the mere prize of the ability to gloat until the nursery was silenced by the wings of sleep.
Apprenticeship was even more exciting, giving the brothers a juicier reason to gloat. Even though someone would cheat from time to time by lying about how many prey they caught, or how many battle moves were perfected, only to be caught by their mentor shedding light on the situation. Around the middle of training, though, a new batch of kits entered the ranks of apprentice. One she-cat in particular, Snowpaw, had caught Finchpaw's eye. She was a beautiful, slim, white-coated girl with pretty blue-green eyes. Her pelt seemed to glimmer in the dappled light, like freshly fallen snow. This is where the chapter you have been waiting for begins.
Slowly and steadily, the two began to make acquaintances. Or, to put this scene into reality, Finchpaw followed Snowpaw like she was a fat piece of fresh-kill, his crush on her as obvious as daylight. Snowpaw, being a quiet, innocent type, didn't seem to mind, and actually found it cute to some extent. This caused a rift that came between him and his brothers. His childish competitions and games were swept away by the new fixation, even to the point where Finchpaw slept with his new friend rather than his siblings. Steadily, anger and jealousy grew.
Finchpaw, of course, was oblivious. Moon by moon he grew closer to the pretty female, and when he became a warrior, they finally grew into mates.
Now Finchtail, he was on top of the world. But his brothers had changed that state of mind very quickly.
The two revengeful siblings took advantage of every second their brown-and-white brother wasn't around his 'precious mate', filling her up with lies and doubts, telling her that he was seeing another she-cat. That he was playing her all along. And even trying to convince her that one of them was the true mate she had been looking for. This went on for so long, and was so forced and stressful, a moon after Snowpaw became warrior (which was a moon after Finchtail became warrior), she gave in, falling victim and falling for one of Finchtail's brothers, Flashfoot. Finishing the plan, Flashfoot deliberately yet subtly gave away his secret relationship with Snowpaw, now Snowshine, with physical gestures and locked eyes.
Insecurity and a fear of trust developed from such a betrayal. His mate, and his brothers, the three closest cats to him in the entire Clan, suddenly against him all in one single move.
Every day it grew, being tortured by the sight of his brother and ex mate together, while being hit with cocky smirks and glares. Praying to StarClan every minute of every day in hopes that this will all end, he got his wish. Early graves were prepared for the trio of betrayers, all in one unfortunate event: killed by rogues. StarClan had seemed to send the heart-broken tom a stranger while patrolling alone, promising him that his problems would be solved next sunrise.
Is it any wonder Finchstar's greatest fear is making his own decisions?
