Naming Guide
Written By Moony
Prefix
The prefix is the first part of the name and should be something that looks like the cat. Like with Cloudtail. The Cloud shows us that he is a white cat that probably has long fur.
The prefix can also be a pattern in the fur that would inspire the parents to name the cat after that. Like if the cat was a sorrel or calico the parent might name it Leafkit because the spots on the pelt remind them of leaves.
Now then the prefix can also be named after some cat that might have done something to help the parents or save the kit. Like the one cat, who I forgot her name, named one of her kits Cinderkit after Cinderpelt because she helped protect them against the badgers when the camp was attacked.
Suffix
The suffix is the last part of the cats name and this is normally about something the cat is good at. If the cat is good at fighting, it is normally "claw" at the end. Like Brambleclaw, this tells us Brambleclaw is most likely a brown cat, possibly a tabby, that is good at fighting.
For medicine cats this can be different. Like with Leafpool she was named after the Moon Pool that she discovered. On rare occasions this can also be used for warriors.
There has also been debate over names like Hollyleaf and Lionblaze. Though some people believe they are good names and that leaf and blaze can be used for suffix's, it is not recommended to use them. Leaf and blaze tell us nothing about what the cat is good at or give us a description of the cat. Names like these are not liked by many literate role-players and are not recommended for use.
The suffix can also tell us more about the cats appearance. Cloud tells us that the cat is white and possibly long haired. Tail can tell us that Cloudtail has a large fluffy tail. Put together they make a good name.
Suffix's can also be about the cat's personality. If the cat has a strong will, Heart is normally used in this case.
Sacred Names
There are some sacred names in the warrior world and these names are not when naming a cat. Moon, sun, star, and pool are banned names.
The moon and sun are important objects in the warrior life, supplying them with light and warmth and they are also signs from Starclan. No cat can be named moon or sun in the suffix or prefix of the name.
Pool is sacred because of Moon Pool. Leafpool is the only cat with pool in her name because she discovered it.
Star is also considered sacred and is only reserved for leaders of a Clan.
