Blazingpaw wasn't exactly sure how he ended up in the wet marshlands, but he was glad of it. The multi-colored tom was finally free from Nightscar's demeaning comments, the clan's scathing gaze. He was on his own. He was free.

Letting out a content sigh he slowly lowered himself down onto one of the drier patches of earth. The land around him was murky and dark, while the stench of rotting crow-food hovered amongst the air. It wasn't a beautiful place, nor was it where he preferred to go. But he was alone and that was all that mattered. Swiveling his ears towards camp he was delighted to hear that no one was coming after him.

"Mouse-brains." he muttered dryly under his breath. Hardly anyone understood him these days, most of them decided that he was too troublesome for their time. The tom didn't mind one bit. Blazingpaw hardly needed their comfort; their support. He was fine on his own. Lightningpaw had died during the battle, Mistykit had been murdered, and his mother had died long ago.

He didn't need anyone. Blazingpaw didn't need anyone. But alas the tom always had to contradict himself, as the silent tears slid down his face. Showering the earth with their salty remains.

Blazingpaw was the cat that didn't need anyone.

A muscular white she-cat made her way slowly though the needle pine clearing. Anger was all that showed in her clear blue eyes as she continued on. She still couldn’t get that night, the night were her life took a different turn, the night her mother lashed out at her leaving her with the clan cats.

Sighing deeply she padded further away from the camp and out into the marshlands. She ignored the faint scent that lingered in the path in front of her.

Arcticpaw continued further until she soon realized that the scent was gradually getting stronger. Cocking her ears she halted and took in a deep breathe. The scent slowly made its way into her brain; she knew right away what that scent belong to. Great the crabby tom. She thought silently to herself, until she felt her paws following the trail the tom had taken.

She was only a couple of fox lengths away from the tortoiseshell tom. To her he seemed like he was out of it, but why? Picking up her speed she caught up to him,”Blazingpaw, Blazingpaw, Blazingpaw, what are you doing out here all by youself?” She meowed sassly.

Blazingpaw's tears immediately stopped, he wasn't the weak tom he was two seconds before. While in the presence of another he had to keep his cool facade. Even if he was in desperate need of companionship. Even if the tears hadn't completely faded, even if his voice cracked when he spoke. He had to keep his cool facade.

"Staying away from you, obviously." he growled, his voice a tad bit snuffly. "Away from everyone." he added quickly, to cover the embarrassment of his beforehand mistake. Blazingpaw wasn't the type of tom to look weak, especially in front of some stuck up she-cat.

"What are you doing? Stalking me?" he muttered, his eyes narrowed in disgust, it was quite odd that she happened to show up as soon as he had gotten comfortable. Even though, secretly he wanted the attention. He wanted other cats to know who he was, and not for the wrong reasons. Blazingpaw wanted someone to converse with, someone to cry on. But he'd never admit, not once, not ever. Everyone he had ever gotten close to was dead. That was that.

All Arcticpaw could do was smile as the tom tried hiding his slip up of crying. But since she was so nice she would just ignore it and act like she didn’t see a thing. She also acted like she cared what he was saying. Ohh what a cry baby, he just wants some attention, at least he knew that his mother loves him. She thought to herself as she came back to reality, an apprentice that is almost a warrior not wanting to be with his clanmates that he would have to live with for the rest of his life.

”No, I’m not a stalker I just needed time alone, and then I caught your scent getting stronger, and since you were walking so slow I caught up to you.” She meowed shaking her head slightly with disagreement, ”Why are you the way you are? You could be the best warrior in the clan with your size, skills in battle and hunting, but you know why your not a warrior yet?” Arcticpaw decided not to let the tom answer for she knew he would never get it right.

”You’re not a warrior yet because of your attitude. You always look like something is on your mind, that could distract you during battle. You even look like you could shred your clanmates at any moment. Like right now I know you would just love to lung at me.” She growled blinking in surprise at her sudden outburst.

With embarrassment she stepped away from the calico tom and dipped her head,
”S-Sorry about that.” She whispered turning away back towards the camp, mentally slapping herself for doing something that would get her no where in her life.

The tom never considered Articpaw an interesting cat, instead he usually just portrayed her as boring--no-one of his concern. But here she was yelling up a storm of insults, instead of hurting him she was actually bringing up a few valid points. Yes Blazingpaw knew all of the reasons were true, and the fact that she noticed them meant something. This meant that not only him, himself were aware of these attributes but everyone in the clan must be noticing them as well.

Blinking he watched with interest as she continued with her slew of mockery, insults. Things that would surely upset any cat, and as the argument was finally getting good she stopped. Instead she turned tail and fled. She apologized--this right here killed any respect that had mustered up in the last one or two minutes he had for her. "That was a pretty big let down." he growled, "I honestly thought your were going to be different then all those pansy mouse-brains." Sure there were one or two cats that even bothered to yell at him, that being Nightscar and Thievingstar, but this was different. It was an apprentice, a cat of his own age that actually had the guts to chew him out.

"But I guess your just as weak as they are." he added rather casually. "Just someone who doesn't matter." Smirking he meowed, "Just a weakling."

A honey-colored cat raced through the forest, not wanting to be anywhere near camp. Her whole life had been ruined by that stupid battle. It was her fault Lightningpaw was dead. If she hadn't been caught off guard by that cat, she could have defended herself. Lightningpaw wouldn't have had to protect her from the rogue. But no, her soon to-be mate was dead, and he was in Starclan now. Tears came to Honeypaw's eyes as she continued running, trying to blink them away. She stopped running when she saw Blazingpaw standing a few inches from her, his back to her. "Blazingpaw?" She said softly, her voice hoarse from crying. Then, she saw Arcticpaw. Anger buzzed through her head as she saw the sight of another female near Blazingpaw.

Before Arcticpaw could utter any reply a familiar scent crossed his path. Curious to as why she was out here, Blazingpaw merely glanced backwards. The little black and white apprentice's eyes were red from salty tears, her voice was hoarse and dry. Sympathy washed over him in waves, he too missed Lightningpaw but that was something he'd never admit. Narrowing his eyes he growled slightly,
"Honeypaw, get over him. He was an annoying brat who got everything he wanted."

The usual spark of defiance had left his eyes, only the sheer glow of anger remained. "He doesn't deserve your pitiful tears. Suck it up, and go back to camp. You aren't needed here." Lightningpaw was his dear brother, a tom who had picked on him when he was younger. Blazingpaw had been the runt of the litter. Even his sister teased and mocked him. Now here he was, the soul survivor of his family. He could be laughing at their fate right now, he could be grinning and bragging. But he wasn't. Blazingpaw was only left to live the horrors they left behind, and he was regretting every minute of it.

"Go back to camp." he spat once more.

Her tears stopped all at once as Honeypaw heard what Blazingpaw had said. "What is wrong with you?! I am not leaving this spot, Blazingpaw. How could you say that about your own brother, who cared about you? He loved me, you think I can just let that go? Huh? You got everything you wanted, too. I had nothing. Everybody that was ever close to me died, and you are the only one that's left here for me. You think I can just walk away from all this?" Honeypaw meowed angrily, her eyes narrowed as her voice grew louder, and not raspy or hoarse anymore. She didn't care if Arcticpaw was still there. She barely knew the cat existed. But it didn't matter. Honeypaw was only focused on Blazingpaw.

The tom narrowed his eyes, anything that he had possibly developed for the she-cat had vanished. This was not only her fight now, this was his as well. "You think your the only one who's alone!" he snarled, the tom was twice as huge as before, his fur bristled and shook. Trembling with anger, shock, and perhaps despair he growled, "Everyone I've ever gotten close to has died. My mother, my sister, Smokepaw, Selene, Tick, and my brother. I almost lost Thievingstar as well." Thrusting his muzzle forward he snapped, "Do you think your so special! High upon your pedestal, watching us peasants from afar! Laughing as we work so hard for what we've lost?"

Not anyone could stop him, the words puttered and clanked from his broken hinges. An uproar of emotions seemed to erupt from such a small enclosure, they had been trapped, bestowed away for later. Yet here they were, the threads were unwoven. Any steps taken forward, were taken back.

"I never get anything! As a kit I was tortured, left alone. You even mocked and ridiculed me. Lightningpaw whisked my sister away right when I thought she was my friend! He took everything I ever wanted!" the tom screeched. Crows cawed in the distance as they were disturbed from their dozing. A sickening silence followed, then soft words were spoken,

"He took you."

"I was never special, Blazingpaw," Honeypaw mewed softly, her ears pressed to her head, shaking from fear as she locked eyes with him. "No one ever knew I existed until I met you two. The only thing left is each other. I'm sorry I always messed with you. I never knew your life was so bad. Maybe i shouldn't have been with Lightningpaw. Maybe I should have been with you," She said, her voice getting quieter and quieter as she spoke.

These were the words Blazingpaw had always wanted to hear. Many restless nights he struggled against such thoughts, and in the end it all came down to her. Since he was a mere kit she had always been ruffling his fur the wrong way. Honeypaw was the reason he had such an attitude, and it wasn't because he hated her. No. It was because he couldn't stand the idea of falling in love with her. As he stood here gazing softly into her eyes he found himself smiling, it was a sad bitter smile. He didn't deserve her, he hardly deserved anything. It was funny how he contradicted himself with this thought but it was true. He was always blazing with a burning fire, waiting to lick away at your flesh, tearing and destroying.

And she was Honey. Sweeter than the word itself, how could something so horrible deserve something that sweet. It just didn't balance out, it wasn't possible. Doing what Blazingpaw did best he narrowed his eyes. "Don't say that. Lightningpaw was the only cat for you." he meowed, his voice tinged with a bitter regret. But he couldn't take back these words, fate was a sickening thing. His destiny wasn't to be with her, and he was sure of it.

"Go back to camp, I don't belong with anyone." Tossing Arcticpaw a glance he growled quietly, "Make sure she gets there." His face was cold, emotion was hardly a feature. The tom was a blank slate, not a thought was present upon his face.

"I'll stay here a bit."

"No, I don't want that thing to take me anywhere. I wanna stay here, Blazingpaw. We should...talk about somethings. She should be the one leaving," Honeypaw mewed, glaring at the she-cat who was just standing there. She then looked back at Blazingpaw's emotionless face. She had seen the sad smile earlier, but the apprentice didn't dare ask about it.

Arcticpaw stayed silent as the two went at each other. The white she-cat could see that the tortoiseshell tom was hiding his true feeling about the black-and-white she-cat. With a silent sigh Arcticpaw zoned out as the two continued to bable on between what had happened in the past and possibly making their future.

Twitching her tail she glanced up from her paws and held a hard glare at the she-cat. Her ice blue gaze stared straight at the she-cat,
"Who are you calling 'thing?'" She growled feeling her hair on her back beginning to rise. "And don't you understand the pain you must have brought to him when you were with Lightningpaw isn't it?" She quickly put in not truly thinking about her words.
"And I'm not going anywhere near that camp, Blazingpaw."Arcticpaw meowed lifting to all four paws.

The air crackled with tension. Shifting his gaze from one she-cat to another he let out an exaggerated sigh, "Honestly if your both going to act like stuck up brats, then I'll leave." Snorting he stood up, he was much bigger than both of them. Their heads merely reach the tip of his shoulder blade. He was truly a massive cat, his long luxurious coat only added to the effect. Shaking his head from side to side he wondered what was wrong with both of these she-cats, they were going to drive him insane.

Tossing Honeypaw a glance he meowed sarcastically,
"She has a point Honeypaw, think of all torture you put me through. I was just dying to be by your side." His gaze shifted towards Arcticpaw, narrowing his eyes he muttered, "You shouldn't disobey my orders, I'm much older than you miss." Flicking his tail he padded away, if they wanted to be in his company so bad then they could follow. Although that's not what he would prefer, in truth he'd prefer if they'd stay away.

As he walked silently back to camp he found it quite strange that Honeypaw was so recently interested in being in his presence. Of course this is what he had always wanted, he was practically in love with her. But ever since he realized that she loved Lightningpaw more than she could ever love him--Well he got over his crush. He couldn't compete with his brother, he wasn't that cruel. But why was she interested now? It then occurred to him that Lightningpaw was dead. His brother was dead.

That tom was her rock, the solid foundation to who she was. Now he was dead. Skidding to a halt he threw a frothy glance behind him, Lightningpaw wasn't here, right? He was dead. Lightningpaw loved Honeypaw, Honeypaw loved Lightningpaw. Where did this leave Blazingpaw. I'm her second choice. I was only ever her second choice. Swinging his enormous head back towards camp he felt a low growl forming in the back of his throat. "So I was only second best." he muttered quietly. A grunt escaped his throat, I'm not going to accept her feelings if it's her last resort. She's only doing this because he's dead.

Honeypaw didn't truly love him. She just thought she did. And this hurt him more than he wanted it to.

Honeypaw's claws unsheathed as she was about to snap at Arcticpaw, but she heard what Blazingpaw said, and narrowed her eyes. With giving a last glare at Arcticpaw, she ran off into the trees. Spotting Blazingpaw's massive form in the distance, she quickly climbed up one of the trees, and carefully jumped from one to another. Then, she leaped down at Blazingpaw, aiming to tackle him. "And where do you think your going?" Honeypaw mewed, her eyes blazing.
