Something was not right. Boneface knew it. The grey tom was laying in camp, listening. Usually one could hear the chatter of wild animals, the song of birds. Today there was silence. It was everywhere. He sighed and laid his ears back. There was something eerie about this quiet. Like a sickening calm before a wild storm what would lash the gentle spring saplings about. He sighed and sat up. One couldn't lay about, not when something was this wrong.
Carefully he stood and began to look for someone to talk to. He wondered if anyone else was getting the same offputting feeling that he was. He sighed, thinking back to a patrol a few quarter moons back and wondered if those strange red marks on the trees had anything to do with it. Anything at all. With a little sigh he began to pace about the camp. Why was the whole world turning upside down. And why did he have the unsettling feeling that things were about to get worse. A lot worse.
