Emergancy! (Owltalon/Anyone)

I walk alone

Silentpaw was sitting beside Sabertooth in the medicine cat den, watching helplessly as he rested, his wound clear from infections and an odd object. What the medicine cat pulled out was a strange silver round thing. How could something so small be so deadly? How could it even penetrate flesh like this? At least Sabertooth was in good paws now. Hopefully, the twolegs wouldn't come back.

All was safe, for now. Could they ever tread near ShadowClan border safely now without having to worry about something like this happening? Or even worse, a cat dying? Silentpaw didn't even know if Sabertooth would recover from this, and even if he did, would he be able to walk properly? What did this mysterious object cause that a naked eye couldn't see?

I have to report this to Riverstar since Sabertooth is resting, Silentpaw thought with a sigh, then exited the den, making a side note to visit the medicine cat den the next chance he had, and to tell Gingerflight the news if she already didn't know. But wait...Riverstar! She still hadn't come back from when she left him to go to camp! Where was she? Great! Now I have to report even more!

Scanning the camp, praying that Owltalon wasn't on a patrol, luckily he saw him near by, but was too blurred in panic to notice what he was doing, or where he was. Racing over to him he skidded to a halt, gazing in the tom's amber eyes fully and seriously before going on with his report. "Owltalon," Silentpaw started off, hoping he didn't sound too disrespectful or warrior-like. "Sabertooth was injured when he and I went on a patrol toward ShadowClan border. The twolegs had some defense that injured him badly. And..." Silentpaw hissed out the last words in frustration.

"Riverstar is with the twolegs!"</sup>

"Your doing great, just try to concentrate on keeping balanced though." Flashing his adoptive daughter a smirk he added, "Then you won't look so much like a lop-sided badger." Scuffing Dapplykit across the ear he let loose another grin. These days she was the only cat to bring a smile to his face. But not even her lively mews kept him cheerful. In the end Dapplekit only reminded him of Rainflight; and she brought nothing but pain. He tried to talk to her; to get her to listen. But the she-cat denied any chance he got. Shaking those painful thoughts away he decided to focus more on Dapplekit; at least to attempt to be happy. "Ok let's try-"

The taint of fear brought his words to a halt.

At once he spun on his heels, his eyes flashing towards the panting apprentice. "What is it?" Was Kestrelpaw in trouble again? The pair were unusually close now a days, too close. The tom's eyes narrowed, "I swear to Starclan if you laid one paw on Kestrelpa-" Silentpaw's frantic meowing cut him off. A slow breath of relief tumbled form his jaws. But that was before he caught wind of the real foul. Riverstar. "At the Shadowclan border?" Before Silentpaw could answer Owltalon was racing out of camp, the wind weaving through his hair.

What do the two-legs want with her? He hoped to Starclan she was alright. Owltalon raced through the brambles; the thorns. When he became deputy he swore his loyalty to the clan, more importantly to her. If he couldn't save her than what kind of deputy is he? The sound of paws meeting the earth echoed his own. Throwing a look over his shoulder he was surprised to see Silentpaw hurtling towards him. The tom eased down his speed a tad bit, trying to match the apprentice.

"You didn't need to follow me." he grunted through his teeth. It was difficult to talk, pay attention to the scenery, and run at the same time but somehow the tom managed it. A few seconds after speaking a broken tree limbs loomed before them. He could have easily scrambled underneath but that would delay time.

He didn't have any time.

Bunching up his muscles he sprung over the branches with ease. Landing gracefully on the other side he waited for Silentpaw to catch up. Once the apprentice was at his side he continued onwards. The Shadowclan border was just up ahead. The chatter of two-legs was barely audible; but present. Sinking to his belly he slithered through the ferns, hoping to trace Riverstar's sent. Only a taint reminder was left behind, but he had it. "I got her trail, stay quiet and follow." Flicking his tail the tom inched forward, expecting to see her crippled, mangled, broken body any second.

Great starclan, please be alright.

Owltalon found himself staring; the words felt dry on his tongue. He couldn't speak but only gape at his leader, bathing in her own blood. Riverstar's eyes fought to stay open, her body was convulsing wildly over and over again. The tom gulped, "Riverstar." he murmured quietly. Extending his long, fluffy tail he pushed the young apprentice behind him. Sheltering him from the danger that was lurking in the shadows. Approaching his caged leader he watched as she one by one lost all of her lives. He exhaled a loud shaky breath before he lost control. "Riverstar!" he screeched. He was now barreling himself against the cage; trying any way possible to get close to his dieing leader. One last attempt and bowled over the shiny contraption. The door swung open as it crashed to the forest floor. Hurriedly he grasped Riverstar's scruff. Pulling her free from the metal encasement he set her gently on the ground. She had been so weightless; so weak. Every feeble attempt seemed useless; Owltalon was left with watching his leader die before him. Nuzzling her cheek he felt himself urging back the tears. Riverstar had always been there for him. He remembered the day when he had became an apprentice; Owlkit bounced out of the nursery, his tiny paws hitting the dusty camp floor with a spring in his step. Excitement bubbled with in him. Today, today was the day he'd become an apprentice. The clan watched as he padded clumsily toward High-Ledge. His siblings, Crowkit and Snakekit following solemnly behind him. His tabby pelt glistened in the sun. He felt as if nothing could go wrong. Not even Mother's harsh words could bring him down. Curiously he watched as each of his siblings were assigned a mentor. Swiftstar stood poised atop the rocky ledge; his tortoiseshell pelt glimmering in the sunny rays. The clan's deputy, Riverfrost, sat quietly beside him. Suddenly he caught her icy blue gaze, he expected to feel intimidated but instead he felt welcomed. Her eyes had this humorous appeal to them. He liked her. "-from now on until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Owlpaw." The tabby apprentice boastfully puffed up his chest, a grin upon his face. This was the moment. Perplexed he anxiously awaited for Swiftstar to assign him an apprentice. A part of him was hoping for Riverfrost. And just like that it happened, "Riverfrost you've been an exceptional Mentor, you will mentor Owlpaw." Pausing the older tom shook his great mane of fur, "I know you'll pass on your intelligence, strength, and well-humored heart to Owlpaw and teach him the skills that will make him a brave warrior Thunderclan will be proud of." Riverfrost leaped down from the ledge, landing swiftly before him. "Woah." Owlpaw meowed, clearly impressed. Riverfrost raised her brows, but merely pressed her nose to his. Since that day Owlpaw swore to become just as amazing as her. The tears couldn't hold back, they stained his cheeks. "I can't do this alone." he whispered. Riverfrost's body convulsed once more. An eerie silence hushed across the forest, Owltalon's tail drooped. But a slight, feeble breath passed the leader's lips. Owltalon's ear's pricked, he nuzzled his leader once more, "Don't leave me, I'm not ready to be leader." She was alive, but not for long.
