The Stars Ashes (Continued)

Stargaze padded out of camp, her spirits low. She was prepared for the worst, but she didn't expect Ashpaw to have such an ill attitude. It was definitely something she wasn't looking forward to. Why did Hazelstar assign me an apprentice she knows is going to be hard to train?

Stargaze just hoped it was going to get better and maybe, just maybe, in time they can get used to each other and have a close apprentice and mentor relationship. That's what Riverspirit seemed to be destined with. At first, she told her Tanglepaw was just an annoying brat.

But after a while, she informed her that she was starting to get used to the rambunctious tom and they even have their moments together. Even a bet. Will she get as lucky as her...?

Waiting for her apprentice to follow, she meowed, "What can you smell...?"</sup>

Ashpaw looked at her.

"Hare, duh." He snapped. "What do I look like? A newborn kit? I know what prey smells like. I'm no mousebrain, mousebrain." He was rude and ill tempered. [/center]

"Your not smelling everything. It's not just prey you are supposed to scent out." Stargaze reminded him gently. "Prey is important to the Clan, of course without it we'd never survive. But even on hunting patrols, we must scent out any other danger just in case."

Stargaze sighed deeply in her mind. Just as she assumed, Ashpaw was going to be a pawful. As stubborn and cocky as he was, he was going to be a challenge to even the greatest of mentors. But why did she, a new mentor, get such a hard apprentice?

It seemed like she didn't need to teach Ashpaw just hunting and fighting and the ways of warrior life. She needed to teach him respect. Or he will never turn out to be a good warrior. Maybe I'll ask Riverspirit and Eclipseclaw for help...they are good with this stuff.

Turning her dark blue gaze toward Ashpaw she meowed, "Now, what do you smell? And be more specific."</sup>
