The stillness here was unprecedented. Eerie as it might have seemed to some, Birdsong reveled in this silence. After escaping the clamorous din of the gathering, he found that he could appreciate smaller things -- the whisper of the snowflakes as they drifted to earth, the quiet pawing of horses as they brushed away the white in search of green, the hum of a distant thunderpath. All were distinct here, unique in their own way, and not muddled by a sea of voices and other meaningless sounds.

The albino tom, sitting comfortably on his haunches at the twolegmade border between the pasture and the free land, leaned his head against the fence post and sighed, hoping Nightflower had followed his advice and taken a separate path to reach this meeting place. Sabertooth was aware of them now; he was sure of this and also of the fact that the brazen tom would spread word throughout the clans of what had occurred at the gathering tonight.

The rumors would fly beyond the island, there was no doubting it. But here, there was no need to worry about outside opinions. Here, for the first time, he and Nightflower would be free to tell their stories for their ears alone. Purring, the warrior rubbed his cheek against the post and stood to pace between it and the next, walking the length of a rail and back, over and over, impatiently awaiting the ShadowClan cat's arrival.

The darkness masked the cat until he stepped out of some bushes. He flicked his tail back and forth then sat down, smiling at Birdsong. His large grey eyes beamed and he sat down next to the tom.

"Hello." he said, a little less shy. "Ummm... thanks for sticking up for me. You're really great, you know that." the little black cat shifted his postition and wrapped his tail around his paws.

Birdsong settled down next Nightflower, an audible purr adding to the quiet sounds around them and the black tom's soft dialogue. "I couldn't just let that brute boss you around," he replied with a warm smile. "Think nothing of it."

As he had at the gathering, the albino's tail seemed to have a mind of its own again, and swished for a brief moment before resting next to Nightflower's. "It is a beautiful night," the tom observed, gazing up at silverpelt, now visible, for the clouds had been whisked away by a brisk winter wind.

"Yes you are... I mean yes it is." Nightflower said, quickly correcting himself. Something about this tom made him... feel at ease. He looked up at the sky again. "He's a big cat." murmured Nightflower. "Is he half badger or something?" He giggled

Birdsong blushed profusely as Nightflower slipped with his words. He admired his modesty, and nudged him with a grin. "Half-badger? Seems like it." Laughing a little, Birdsong turned to gaze into the tom's eyes and suddenly found himself lost in their silvery depths.

Nightflower smiled at the other tom, he too was staring. "Your eyes... they are like the sun over the waves as it sets." He mewed. "That very same shade of red. They are... amazing." he purred happily.

Enchanted by his comments, Birdsong answered with a simile of his own, his tail tentatively moving u[ to brush Nightflower's forearm. "Ah, but yours... are unparalleled. Like an early morning fog drifting through a quiet moor." He averted his eyes suddenly and bit his tongue, fighting back an odd urge that was welling inside of him. What was this feeling? Why had he never experienced it before?

Nightflower looked at him, blushing a little. Slowly he leaned in brething on the tom's ears.

A barking interrupted them, followed by a loud banging noise. Two-legs and their dogs, barking and screaming.

Nightflower froze.

Birdsong leaned in as well, inhaling the tom's strong, flowery fragrance, his mind whirling with desires he was forced to fight back. He shut his eyes tightly to hide his dilating pupils, but the echo of a fiercely barking dog drew him out of his passionate daydreams, and his lids shot open again. "Nightflower!" the ThunderClan warrior wailed, snapping into action. He shoved the tom forward and urged him to follow, eyes wide with nightmarish terror.

The black tom was jolted into action and he ran.
"Come on Birdsong." he yowled as he ran, terrified. "Do you know somewhere safe?"

Birdsong sped ahead, frequently looking back to ensure that the tom was keeping up with him. "Yes," he called, picking up his pace as the baying and howling continued. "There's a thicket, just across the field. The outside is covered in thorns, but there's a small entrance that we could fit through. The dogs will lose their eyes if they try to follow us there."

The barking dogs were on their tails, and the dirt was exploding around them. Nightflower ran, terrified. What was happening... at least Birdsong was helping. He followed the tom as closely as he could

Birdsong's talons left deep rifts in the earth as he sprinted across the frozen field. He did not dare to not stop for a moment, though he occasionally shot a glance back at Nightflower to meow a few words of encouragement as they sped along, the dogs following closely behind them. At long last, he neared the thicket, and scrambled inside, prickled by stickers as he clawed his way though the tiny hole in the brush. The tunnel was long and winding, but finally, the albino and his companion reached the center.

It was cool and dry inside, with the woven branches and vines above making a secure ceiling. A few rays of moonlight threaded through small breaks in between the twigs, giving the pair a little light to see by. "I come here occasionally," Birdsong murmured, settling down in a pile of leaves and grass that had obviously been arranged there on a previous visit. His breathing came in short, labored gasps as he recovered from the chase, but a smile was playing on his lips nonethelesss. "We are safe here. Make yourself comfortable." He scooted over and motioned with a paw, offering the space next to him.

Nightflower smiled at the tom. "It's lovely." he mewed, brushing a tail over the tom's shoulder. "It's very... secluded." he purred, moving closer. "Very...secluded." he softly licked the other tom on his cheek, his eyes gentle as he did so.

Birdsong couldn't help but suppress a long, contented purr, and returned the affection, nuzzling Nightflower's shoulder and playfully nipping his neck. "It is... very secluded," he rumbled, nudging the tom.
