EVOLVE
It had all happened so fast, at one moment I saw my opponent knocked out in front of me and then the next I was captured in a white light. My whole body tingled as I felt my limbs pull and stretch all over me. Before I could even think the light disappeared showing my foe returning into its master’s pokéball. I was just about to turn around to my master to celebrate our win, but an extra weight caught my attention instead. My once small arms that used to stick out to my side was now a deep crimson red and hanging below my chest with long claws at the end. The thought of transforming into my second stage was the only thing that went through my mind at that very moment.
A loud scream erupted behind me and in a flash my master was kneeling in front of me. Her eyes glowed with what seemed to be with joy at my sudden change. A wide smile was spread across her face, “Charmeleon!”
Charmeleon? I slowly blinked at my master’s excited words as they started to sink in. “You’re going to be called Charmeleon from now on.” She exclaimed giving me a thumbs up. It’s the name of my current form, a step closer to my last stage of my evolution. I am Charmeleon.

To: MoonyEverything was quiet as the sun slowly rose over the horizon and flooded the territory with warm light. Birds were chirping lightly and a few small pieces of prey were scampering around collecting nuts and fallen berries. Everything was peaceful, silent and calm. It seemed as if nothing wanted to disturb the tranquility. However, something moving made the birds stop and grow silent. The other prey frozen as a figure stalked among the shadows slowly looking around. They took off seeking shelter. The creature stopped and growled some but kept going until he reached a rise looking down at a small clearing. Below he could see cats, a clan known as Thunderclan, moving around preparing for the day. He just watched, not moving barely breathing. This is where he needed to be, and he saw the cat he needed to see.
The black she-cat grumbled some as a paw prodded her to get up. She shifted and pulled her paw over her eyes and moaned in protest. Sadly the prodding kept happening until she finally lifted her head. A black tom was standing over her waiting for her to get up. What could her father want now? It was too early and she needed her beauty sleep. However he prodded her one more time before walking out of the cave, trotting around other sleeping figures with ease. A wide yawn escaped her jaws and she pulled herself up and followed the leader.
“You would think you’d be excited about a dawn patrol,” chuckled the tom lightly as he swiped a paw across his ear.
“It’s too early. This should be like…before light patrol,” she muttered as she stretched.
“What do you think dawn means, Ravenstreak?”
The she-cat stopped then rolled her eyes at her dad. He always knew she was messing up something. He moved over and nudged her lightly then slipped out of the camp waiting for his daughter to catch up. Ravenstreak quickly followed and was glad when they finally were bounding through the trees of the forest.
This was the reason she loved her home so much. The smells were always changing and the air was light and inviting. Prey was running well for it almost being leaf-bare and only a few leaves had fallen. The she-cat looked around her as they ran. Yes, this was why she was a Thunderclan warrior. This is why she had trained so much to get here.
As they neared the boarder they slowed to catch their breaths and marked their territory where it was growing faint. Ravensteak always worked a bit ahead of her dad. She was glad everything was quiet for a change. Almost too quiet. She stopped her ears swiveling some on top of her head. There were no sounds of prey, no birds in the air. She tensed as an odd scent filled her nose. A yowl echoes through the trees and she turned quickly to find her dad lying unconscious under the form of a large tabby tom.
A gasp caught in her throat as she took in the tom features. His fur was dirty and matted and half of his face was scars and destruction. His one good eyes watched her intently and his teeth bared slightly as he moved forward. Ravenstreak tensed ready to spring then the figure finally spoke.
“I don’t want to hurt him, Ravenpaw of Thunderclan,” he mewed his voice raspy from no use.
The she-cat froze and just stared at him. How did he know her name? And to add to that how did he know what clan she was from? Her eyes narrowed some and she stood tall, although in side she was trembling.
“My name is Ravenstreak now,” she mewed, pausing as she saw a hint of surprise cross his eyes only for a brief second, “And you will let my father go. You are trespassing on our lands and you do not belong here.”
The tom didn’t look frightened or ready to turn tail and flee. He just stared at her with a cold pale yellow eye almost as if he knew the way he was staring terrifying her. His tail flicked form side to side, almost involuntarily and occasionally his ears would tilt to the side as if he was listening for other cats to come. Surely someone else had heard the yowl from before.
“I will let him be. But you must come with me.”
“There is no way I will leave my clan to follow some stranger to who knows where!” growled Ravenstreak, her fur rising in irritation.
“I don’t want to harm you or your clan, but I will if I must.”
The tom put his paw over her still unconscious father’s throat, his claws stretching out to lightly touch the tender place in his neck. Ravenstreak’s eyes narrowed in despite but she sighed and hung her head in defeat. She wouldn’t let her father die like this. She doubted that this tom could ruin the whole clan though. He may have been big, but she might be able to overtake him.
“Alright, fine. I’ll come with you. But you must promise to not harm my father or my clan,” she mewed firmly staring at the tom.
“I promise. May my great mentor haunt me to my death if I should break it.”
Ravenstreak nodded some and stood as the tom moved away and lead her across the Thunderclan boarder. She looked at her father and darted over gently licking his ear, whispered a sorry and followed the deformed tom.
They walked for miles it seemed. Over hills, across thunder-paths and between two-leg homes. They always moved at the same pace, never slowing, never speeding up. The tom never looked back to see if she was following, but his ears would occasionally swivel her way. He didn’t speak, but she figured it was because he was already having trouble breathing. He seemed old. So why did he need her?
“We can rest if you-“ she started.
“No,” he snapped ad kept moving lashing his tail angrily.
“You are barely able to breathe. I can hunt for us,” she kept persisting. She didn’t want to admit it, but her paws here hurting a little.
The tom sighed but stopped and sat down nodding. She watched as he glanced around then hoisted himself on some nearby boxes. Ravenstreak listened quietly and soon heard shuffling. Before she knew it she had caught two mice and was sitting near the tom eating quietly. They were tiny things, but it was still food.
“While you are with me I will hunt for you and make sure you have a warm bed. I know a clan cat isn’t used to the kind of conditions around here,” he mewed before he took another bite.
“No we aren’t, but may I ask why you brought me here if you knew all this?” she asked pausing in her eating to stare at the tom.
He seemed to shrink under her stare, like now that he was home, he didn’t have to act brave or menacing. As she looked him over she noticed that he wasn’t as old as she first assumed. He was probably closer to her age, but the scars and deformity of his face it was hard to really tell. He never quit moving although he was sitting. Whether it was his paw, tail or ears, something was constantly moving. It was little unnerving, but at the same time, she felt as if it was familiar.
“To answer your question,” he finally mewed, “I seek a companion.”
“Excuse me?” she said, bewilderment evident in her voice.
“A companion,” he said firmly, “not a mate. Someone to talk to and travel with. I’ve been alone for so long now, and I knew that clan cats in a way like to travel, though sometimes they do not realize it.”
“How do you know so much about the clan cats? I’ve never seen you around before,” she murmured, tilting her head.
“I just not followed you here, from the territories around the lake. The place you once called home Ravenpaw,” he said looking at her then shook his head, “Pardon me. Getting used to your warrior name will be hard for me.”
Ravenstreak grew quiet and looked him over some more. He knew a lot about the clans, but she didn’t recall hearing about a disfigured tabby tom roaming around. He was gentle despite what he first put on. Maybe he felt as if he had to force her to come, in order for her to listen to him. She could tell he really was lonely. It was the way he held himself. He was curled up tight, hiding from the shadows that surrounded them.
“You’ve grown so a lot since the last time I saw you,” he mewed breaking her out of her thoughts. She looked at him, confused.
“We’ve met?”
“Yes, many, many moons ago. You were still an apprentice, hence why I keep calling you Ravenpaw,” he explained, a hopeful tone to his voice, “you found me slightly irritating, but nice to talk to. A companion outside the clans you could confide in.”
Ravenstreak racked her brain trying to remember any cats she had met when she was little. She looked into his eyes then gasped as she recognized the mischievous glint she had seen so long so.
“Streak!” she exclaimed, her head perking up and her eyes lighting up with excitement.
“The one and only,” he murmured with a weak smile.
“I didn’t recognize you.”
“I barely recognize myself sometimes.”
“What happened? I thought you were coming with us when we left. When you didn’t show up,” she trailed off some an almost sorry look crossing her features, “I thought you had changed your mind.”
“I did, really,” he mewed lowering his gaze some, “But then I realized how lonely I felt and tried to follow you here. Ran into a fox that did this to me. But that was moons ago.”
Ravenstreak fell quiet, watching him with sad eyes. He had been through so much and all alone as well. No wonder he wanted a companion so badly that he thought he had to kidnap one. She quietly got up and moved over to him, their fur brushing lightly. He looked at her, almost with surprise, but didn’t shrink away.
“You could have just told me who you were,” she murmured, “You didn’t have to kidnap me.”
“But stealing things is what I do best,” he said with a weak grin, “I knew your father wouldn’t let you come. I am really sorry about that. I promise I’ll try to make it up to you.”
Ravenstreak was quiet for a bit and looked at paws thinking. She had an idea, but she wasn’t sure that this tom would agree to it. She had to try anyway.
“What about this,” she started off slowly, “How about you take me back home, and I’ll explain to everyone it was a misunderstanding. And then once every half-moon I’ll travel here to come see you?”
She watched as Streak looked at her with thankful eyes.
“Yes, I would like that very much,” he mewed.
Ravenstreak grinned and nudged him playfully. After they had finished eating they slowly made their way back home. They walked side by side, the beautiful warrior and the not so beastly loner, as the sun sunk below the tree lines of the forest wall.
