Can has mobile-friendly?

So I've been having some difficulties accessing the site on my mobile phone. I'm aware that there is a Proboards app for both iOS and Android, but it's $3 in the app store, and I'm... cheap. :c There's a better way!

I would like to offer my services as a UI developer to create some media queries (CSS3 properties) to make the site responsive (if your first thought is, "what the heck is that?" -- see articles one, two, three). I do this at work on a daily basis and it wouldn't be difficult at all. As far as the images are concerned, I typically use a jQuery plugin to appropriately resize them, but if Proboards doesn't allow for additional JavaScript, I can either hide the larger images at mobile size, or attempt to scale them with CSS.

If this sounds good, I'll get started on it sometime this week. I can work without access to the site's current CSS (yay, Firebug!), but having access to it would be helpful. Wish, I promise I won't break anything. n_n

I always get irked when I wanna browse the site on my phone and then it ends up being too much of a hassle - and then I 'x' out and cry haha.
But just let me know what you need from the site and I'll try to be as accommodating as I can :3
I don't really care if you get access to the coding - as long as it doesn't get crazy messed up or anything I don't give a hoot haha. It's all pretty basic stuff to fix up anyway -shrugs-

Is there any way you can add some id's or classes to some of the tables in the layout? We've got a tremendous amount of embedding tables within tables and hunting down the right td with the nth-of-type selector is proving to be a pain. :c Adding classes to the tables will not impact your CSS as it stands right now. In particular, I need an ID or class added to the tds containing the top banner image, the sidebar (Welcome, Staff, etc.) , the main content (where the list of boards or post content goes) and the footer image. I will be editing or hiding some of these sections to make it easier on the mobile... er... eyes, so to speak. If you can't edit it directly, that's okay, I'm just going to have to puzzle over these selectors a bit. xD

I unfortunately have a pretty basic knowledge of css/html.
I know how to edit it and piece it together but when it comes to writing it from scratch I'm a little inept. I THINK I know what you mean by class and id's but I'm not sure if I can edit it without messing the entire thing up. I know if I do it correctly, like you said, it won't change anything but I don't think I know how to do it correctly n.n'

and a lot of the coding is borrowed from other proboard resource websites, and a lot of them can't be edited directly. If it makes it any easier I can grant your account 'admin' privileges and you can go dig through the codes yourself?

I just don't trust myself entirely and I don't want to mess it up @.@

If it's too complicated, I can take care of it. xD Probably best if I'm the one to add classes and IDs anywho, since I have a better idea of what I need where. :3 I don't know if you use Firefox, but Firebug is a very nifty little tool that you can use to make quite styling edits on the fly and generally walk through the DOM (Document Object Model -- basically, the page structure). The changes you make in Firebug are temporary, only appearing to you on your machine, and will disappear when you refresh, but when you're testing things out it saves so much hassle!

anyways you should have access to the header/footers of the layout. The 'admin' area of the forum should be available to you now and the majority of it is located in the global header/footer and there's a good amount in the main header/footer (:

I've add the id's and classes that I need. It surprises me how much Proboards relies on JavaScript to populate its forum data... but that's also a good thing, in a way. It means I should probably be able to pull in any scripts I need to fix any responsive bugs I come across. I wasn't sure if Proboards was restrictive with scripting or not.

I'll see if I have time to tinker with it today.

No problem! The first iteration will be far from perfect, but it should be a lot easier to view. It won't be fully responsive (meaning look amazing at /all/ screen sizes), but I've set a breakpoint for 786px and smaller (link to article), which is common for most tablets in portrait (vertical) mode.

The big question I'm still thinking about is what will happen to all of the images. I'm already planning to hide the header and footer banners (at least for now -- I'm hunting for a good script that will resize them appropriately). Not sure what will become of post tables and so forth. The c-box will be another tricky one. A good challenge to be sure. :3

ALSO! I will need some folks willing to test it out on various devices as I go along. I have an Android smart phone, but that's about it. My work tablet and iPod touch are on loan to another project team in the office.

The more I work on it, the more I realize how much Proboards lovvvvves tables. Loves them. To bits. All over, everywhere, forever. xD

I unfortunately cannot make it as pretty as I would like. I'm finding with the individual boards especially that it has this odd habit of every-other post having a full member info box across the width of the post, not sure why, but it doesn't seem like something I can fix. Table borders will be a bit hiccuppy as well. But, my hope is that I'll have something at least somewhat better than the pinch/zoom/scroll of the full site. If I was able to modify more of the table structure, I could get a lot more done and make it look much more presentable. Unfortunately I don't have access to much of the backend. Headers and footers, and that seems to be about it.

What a lovely adventure this is turning out to be! xD
