A Walk in the Woods {Streak}

The black she-cat padded through the woods, searching for moss. Rainflight had given her a tour already of the territory, and she was now given the task of collecting moss for the elders den. So here was the new apprentice, searching for the moss.

Finally, a ways from the camp, did Ravenpaw spot some of the softest moss in the woods. Dragging some away from the tree it surround, the apprentice began to round it up into a ball when she realized she wasn't alone.

Streak flicked his ear in annoyance. Those stupid Deathclan cats had taken his snake, and now he had nothing to eat. The brown tabby's eyes flicked around slightly as he tried to find something to eat. He would eat a bug right now if he had to.
The scent of prey caught his nose and he lifted his head. His nose and ears twitched slightly and automatically his paws started that way. He kept going forward, gaining speed till he came beside a bush where notice made him stop dead in his tracks. It was a soft scratching noise, just enough to catch his short spanned attention. He forgot about his hunt and his rumbling stomach and slowly slipped into the trees.
The sight before him made his heart skip a beat. It was a young black she-cat with ball of moss. Streak just blinked at the cat for the longest time. Something was pulling at him but he didn't know what. He had never really met a she-cat before. He started to move forward but stopped when the she-cat looked up and his way. He just slowly blinked, unsure of what to do. [/center]

With ears pricked up, and musles tense in case she needed to run, Ravenpaw listened. The rustleing sound that had alerted her of another cats presence was gone, but the black she-cat could feel it in her bones that she was being watched. Ravenpaw knew that if it was a cat, she would never be able to fight him or her off on her own. She had to be prepared to run if a fight was they only choice.

The forest had seemed to dissapeared. Ravenpaw concentrated hard on pin pointing where the sound came from. She could see a shadow in front of her, but it wasn't until the wind blew her way that Ravenpaw realized it was a cat, and it didn't smell like a clan cat either.

"Wh-who are you?" she called out, the nervousness she was feeling vibrated through-out her voice and fear emitted from her pelt as Ravenpaw remembered her experience with Lightning. If it was him, she was sure if she would be able to run.

Streak hesitated slightly but slowly stepped out of his hiding spot. He never took his eyes away from the she-cat.
"i am you, and you are I. We are one in the same, yet...different." he replied. "My name is that of a wondering soul and the apprentice of a marvelous cat. I'll tell you mine when you have told me yours."
Streak slowly kept padding around the she-cat curiosity flashing in his eyes. Maybe she was one of those clan cats. Maybe not.

Ravenpaw listened to the strange tom. A chill went up her spin as the cat started to circle her. As hard as she tried, Ravenpaw could not move a single paw. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid she told herself You should have taken a warrior with you. Stupid stupid stupid! But there was nothing she could do now but tell the tom her name.

"I-I'm Ravenpaw of Th-thunderClan." she choked out. The black she-cat couldn't believe she had been able to get it out. The tom was confusing, and scarey. She was stupid for acting this way. She had to get over her fear or she would be a danger to the clan in a battle against rouges or loners. "Y-you are on ThunderClan ter-rritory."

Streak tilted his head slightly to the side as the she-cat stuttered. He could tell she was scared. That was good. He knew now he at east looked fierce. His ears twitched slightly and he made a few jerky movements before shifting his weight on his paws.
"Ravenpaw...No doubt you're clever, with that the raven is known for. Or it could be thy pelt, dark as the feathers that spread from it's body." he said his tail flicking from side to side.
"Well i am an honorable cat to my word." He paused and looked over the she-cat too frozen to move. He didn't care who's lad he was on really. "My name is that of an ordinary name, one given to me because of what i can do. My name means fast as lightning strikes and deadly as an attacking snake."
He stopped amused at the face of the she-cat who looked totally dumbfounded. He head jerked sideways a little, something he wished he could control, but however he couldn't.
"but as seeing you don't understand," he continued, "My name is Streak, former apprentice of the great Macavity himself. Soon to be the greatest cat-napper in the area."
He knew he said the last part a little too boastfully, but hey, he wasn't really known yet in these parts so he could make up things for now.[/center]

Ravenpaw felt herself slightly relax for some odd reason. If this cat ment to do her harm, surely he would have done it by now? "So, you're Streak and you are a cat napper?" The black apprentice couldn't believe what she was saying, but obviously some of her brother had rubbed off on her "So you take long, sweet naps, eh?" She waited only moments before she began to wearily circle around him. "Are you just in our territory because there is to much greater competion in other territories?"

Ravenpaw had been gone from camp for awhile. They would be wondering where she was soon, and a patrol would be sent out. If it came soon, they could chase off this loner and she wouldn't have to worry about him. But what if they don't come? Am I just heading for a fight by saying what I did? Oh Ravenpaw, you are such a mouse-brain! You really should have accepted Silentpaw's offer to come with you! Stupid, stupid, mouse-brain!"

Streak chuckled lightly at the cat's comment about him taking naps. 'If she had any idea...[\i] he thought but he let her keep talking.
He could tell she was fighting with herself on wither she should call for help or not. He stood up and took a few steps forward.
"You know... I'm not one to really attack cats...i'm more of one who darts in and out of the picture." he said lightly before darting forward, running right past her and scooping up the moss she had in her jaws. He stopped on the other side of the clear and looked at her and put the moss down.
"Oh, and cat-napper, it means thief." he said, adding an amused tone to his voice, "But what would a kit like you know?
He picked up the moss and started to pad off again.[/center]

Ravenpaw watched the tom with weariness. He certainly was strange. But when he took that moss she had been working hard to gather, she was angry. "H-hey! Come back here you!" she yowled as she started to chase after the tom. "I don't care what you are, you're nothing but a cowardly tom!" Any cat who steals from others is diffinantly a coward

Streak turned slightly as the she-cat made the comment about being cowardly. He let out a snort around the moss and climbed up a small tree sitting on the lowest branch looking down at the smaller she-cat. He set the moss down so it wouldn't fall.
Cowardly you say? he licked his paw and brought it over his ear slowly. Cowardly is such a...misused word. Cowardly is one, who when he's faced with a choice to save someone else, he turns and runs away. A thief, is a cat who takes what he needs to survive."
He paused his talking and his cleaning to look at the black she-cat. She was a very persistent beast, no doubt about that. Cute too. His ears twitched at the last comment. No one would settle with a tom like him. He was surprised he was able to keep his attention this long. He continued after a bit.
"you see, everyone needs to survive one way or another. You clan cats," he lifted his lip up in a slight snarl, "Prefer to follow rules and hunt for the creatures, and fight to protect you boarders. Thieves on the other hand don't have to work so hard and look at how I'm doing. Jolly as a kitten with a feather. So, do you still think I'm a coward?"
He flicked his tail slightly before settling down and wrapping his tail around him, keeping his golden gaze on the she-cat, almost taunting her to climb up the tree.[/center]

Ravenpaw huffed. "I don't care how you survive, but I gathered that moss so give it back!" The black apprentice was slightly chaking as her fear of rouges and loners returned. Her brave front was gone and her female nature was returning. What a day this was being, she just wanted to scream and cry. It certainly wasn't turning out how she expected. It was a simple task of getting the moss for the elders and nursery, and now it has turned into confronting a stupid loner.

Taking a shakey breath, Ravenpaw sat down. What should she do now? Climb up after him? She may be named after a bird but she certainly wasn't one. Sighing once again, Ravenpaw looked up at Streak. "Listen, I need that moss for our nursery. I don't want to fight for it."

Streak tilted his head slightly but kept cleaning himself. He paused for a moment when she gave her reason for collecting the moss.
"Kits you say? I don't you much about you Clan cats, but isn't that a low job for the apprentices?"
He put on an amused stature but his twitching made it kind of hard. In the distance a bird let out some kind of call and he turned his head that wanting so badly to go get it. He blinked and focused back on the cat in front of him.
"Well i really don't want a fight either. But i shall give you your moss back if you can answer me one question." he paused for a moment flicking his tail, "Where would be the safest place to sleep beside a monsters house or one of the clan camps?"
He let his ears lay back on the two choices they he really didn't want. Monsters were those two leg creatures that talked in a weird way and tried to control what everyone else did. and he would not force himself to live in a clan, too many rules.[/center]

Well, at least he will give it back. But where is the safest place to sleep? Ravenpaw couldn't believe she was helping a loner escape in a way. But she couldn't very well go back to camp with no moss either. "Well," she began "That island in the lake would be a good place, as long as you aren't there during a full moon. We clan cats use it for meetings. My dad use to live in this abandoned twoleg nest near the outskirts of ThunderClan territory. You could check that out, but that is all I know."

The Ravenpaw also couldn't believe she had actually apologized to Streak either. As long as no one found out, she would be safe. Hopefully. She just hope that answer appeased him, she was so nervous her stomach was in knots. Oh how she hated rouges and loners.

Streak listened to the smaller she-cat as she gave idea of where he could go. The island was out of the question. He despised water with a high passion. plus he didn't want to have to deal with more cats than need be. The monster's place sounded a bit fishy as if she was trying to get him caught, but when she said abandoned it sounded a little better. It was shelter, probably had a lot of food, and he could be alone to his thoughts. He liked the last part a lot.
The tabby tom slowly nodded and flicked his tail on the back of the moss making it fall to the ground in front of the cat. He stood up and slowly stretched, making sure not to let the cat leave his sight.
"Thank you for that information. But i will say, this may not be the last time i see you Ravenpaw." He let his eyes narrow in thought for a moment, "You seem like a very good ally. maybe we could work together sometime."
He flicked his tail slightly before slipping up to a further branch and slipping away. Now he knew a little about these clan cats. Well more about this one in general. Maybe he could use her later to figure out about this Deathclan those two older toms had been talking bout. He surely had found a good ally.[/center]

Ravenpaw tried her best to put a strong front on, but the she-cat could only manage a glare as the moss plumetted to the ground. She jumped back only slightly to get out of it's path, but her eyes stayed on the loner-out of fear. It gripped her even more as she spoke, she thought she would choke. Maybe Ravenpaw wasn't all cut out to be a warrior. Maybe she would be better off as a medicine cat or just went to the elders den extrememly angry.

No, Ravenpaw, you can't. You have to show them you're strong. That you're not just about fun and games. The glare she had given Streak only became more prominent as he spoke again. "I'll never be your ally. she whispered, just loud enough for him to catch it on the wind. When the tom dissapeared from her sights, the apprentice gathered up the moss.

Heading back towards the camp, her stomach didn't ease from it's pain. Maybe Swirl-leaf's got something for it. she hoped as she reached the entrance to ThunderClan's camp. Turning one last time to look out at the forest, Ravenpaw though Never on your life, Streak. Never on your life will I be your ally. before plunging into the briars.
