A new apprentice?

Cloudpaw felt the heat rise of his pelt as his clanmates chanted his name and Ashpaw's. He was about to go over to the new apprentice but Heatherflower padded over saying something about a new den. He didn't think he had to move out of the old one. But it wouldn't matter. He just nodded and got up following her to the medicine den. A slight breeze ran bye him and he swore he could smell his mom.
I'm so proud of you.
The voice was so soft he thought it was the wind but he smiled and kept following him. He knew at least one cat would accept him.

Heatherflower's mind was whirling with all the things that the medicine cats had told her during her apprenticeship. It's important to sleep in your den. If you ever get an apprentice, it would also be best if he or she was sleeping near the den too. Swirl-leaf of ThunderClan had told her.
The calico turned and looked at her new apprentice "You don't mind, having a new den, do you?" she asked.

Cloudpaw looked at his new mentor. "Yeah it's fine...i think i probably would snatch ashk- uh paw's ears off if i had to stay there." he said lightly. He knew the tom was a little mean. But he felt like he needed to be in the medicine den. It's where be belonged now.
As Hazelstar had said, his path took a strange turn. He had been waiting to be a warrior as a kit and now he was helping the warriors.he sort of thought about what his mom said.
Maybe she was trying to tell me this was my life. he thought.

Heatherflower nodded. "Great." stepping into her den, the cool air was an instant relief from the hot air outside. The smell of the many different herbs wafted across to her as she lead to way to the back of her den. "This is where I sleep." she meowed, flicking her tail at a small nest of moss. "And this is where you can stay. " She meowed as she padded a little bit away and pointed to the entrance. "It's only big enough for one cat in at a time. Plenty of room to stand, turn around and strecth in for a full grown warrior. You can go and make your nest in their and then come back and I'll give you the rest of the tour."

Cloudpaw nodded and slipped into small addition. Heatherflower was right. It was the perfect size giving him a little extra room to stretch out, but he knew he would grow. He slowly blinked getting used to the dimness and let the herbs scents drift past his nose. He soon padded back out and slipped out of the camp to outside the barrier and easily find come ferns and a little bit of moss. He scratched up the moss and took it back snagging a few ferns. He soon had his new bed fixed. Maybe her could find a few feathers later. He padded back out of his den and looked around for heatherflower.

Heatherflower lifted her head from what she was doing, spotting her new apprentice. "Cloudpaw, over here!" she called out as she put the last touches on her project. When she saw him come over, she meowed "I hope the den is big enough, when it gets to small just tell me and you can move into the main room." she turned and directed his attention to the stacks of herbs lined up before her in a line.

"I want to be sure what I told you earlier stayed. Some of these herbs are the ones we got and some aren't. Go through, sniff each one and tell me the names of the ones you recognize. The others I'll tell you the names and their uses."

Cloudpaw padded over and looked at the herbs as she started to explain. He recognized the yarrow for sure and marigold, poppyseed, and burdock. He slowly padded forward and sniffed at the herb.
"The first ones yarrow. I remember it from the island." he said and started toward the second one. This one was different. He blinked fora moment then sure enough the answer came easily.
"Catnip..." he said flicking his ears slightly. "The third and forth ones are Burdock and poppy."
He lifted his head for a moment to get the herbs smell out of his nose.

Heatherflower listened to his answers. She was amazed to hear him say the name of the herb she had not showed him. He truely did have a knack for herbs. That's for sure.
"Okay then, Cloudpaw. Do you know any of the uses for these herbs?"

Cloudpaw thought for a moment. "Poppy's used for helping the cat to relax. Yarrow is put on scratches to help heal them." he said remembering what she had used them for at the island. "I wanna say Catnip is used for green cough. i don't remember burdock."
He felt kind of bad about the last two. He pretty much guessed at the catnip.

"Very good, Cloudpaw." Heatherflower meowed. "Now, burdock leaves can be chewed and put onto wounds to prevent infection while the roots can be chewed to draw out infection. It's especially powerful again rat bites."Heatherflower pointed to the Catnip "Catnip can be used with white cough and green cough. It also works to relieve congestion and coughs. The poppy flower heads and leaves can be eaten to relieve chills while the petals and leaves can be chewed into a politic to prevent infection. Poppy seeds can aid in sleep and help with pain while the heads can be eaten to stop a continuous cough. Yarrow can be chewed to prevent infection and if the whole plant is eaten will induce vomiting to remove poison."
Heatherflower stopped and looked at Cloudpaw. She bet it was a tidal wave of information "Don't worry if you don't understand it all, it takes awhile to remember."

Cloudpaw listened as Heatherflower threw the information at him. When she finished he felt like a lightning bolt had hit him. That was a lot of information and just for three plants....or was it four. He racked his brains trying to remember.
"so, Burdock leave are put on to prevent while the roots take it out." he mewed slowly. Okay that might be a little easy. "Leaves to stop disease while Roots give the boot."
he smiled slightly at himself for coming up with the catchy phrase. Maybe this would be easier than he thought. He just had to think of ways to remember things.

Heatherflower laughed at Cloudpaw's phrase. "That's one way to remember it. But it's an infection burdock prevents, not disease." Heatherflower turned back to the herbs. "Now, lets put these away and I'll show you where I store the herbs." The she-cat bent down and gently picked up the stack of catnip leaves and started to pad over to the back side of the den.

"Oh okay." he said nodded and scooped up the poppy and followed her to where the herbs were held. As he padded back other scents slowly filled his nose around the poppy. Some were strong and sweet while other were tangy or almost sour.
Cloudpaw put the poppys down running his tongue over his muzzle. He felt he needed to ask heatherflower a question but he waited for now. Right now he was getting a tour. He'd probably ask afterward.

Heatherflower put down the catnip and went back to the stacks returning with the other herbs. She sat them down again and meowed. "This is where I store the herbs." she meowed, pointing to the row of herbs. "I put them in order from the ones that are most needed in the front and the ones not normally needed in the back. I'd like you to try and put these herbs back in their spots."

Cloudpaw nodded and picked up the poppy. He knew it was used a lot. He easily found the place for that and put it in the row before going back and picking up the burdock.He slowly went alone the row, till he found a place where another scent of burdock filled his nose. He gently put them there and finished with the others. He flicked his tail slightly when he was finished and looked at Heatherflower.
