Watch the blood, drip, drip, drip.

A nasty retort hovered on the tip of her tongue, I can take care of myself. But before she could even utter a word, Sharpclaw, was already off, tending to her needs. Like I need assistance in living. Scarlett had been living on her own for nearly a year, she wasn't a helpless kit.

With smoldering eyes she watched as Sharpclaw approached, cobwebs cascaded from his jaws. It looked pretty funny actually, a small smile betrayed her usual glare. But it was gone a second later. Cautiously she awaited what he'd do next. As he moved forward she flinched backwards, her legs shaking under the uneven weight. Holding steady on three paws was harder then it looked.

'Be still', the words echoed strangely against the walls of the cave, "Fine." she grumbled back, as the tom slowly wrapped her forearm in the sticky substance. At once the pressure had relieved, but the pain still remained. Clenching her teeth she made sure to stay put as he finished wrapping the gash.

It was unfortunate that this task only reminded her of her old life, living in that barn, being tortured day after day. But the day she got burned was the worst. The flesh was literally burnt off of her bone, there wasn't even any blood. Not until a day or so later. And the pain, oh it had hurt so bad.

Subconsciously Scarlett pulled her leg back, not caring if Sharpclaw was done or not. He wouldn't--couldn't know how to care for her. None of them would, bending down she tightened the last strand of cobwebs. Bringing her piercing gaze upwards once more she growled quietly,

"Leave me alone, I can care for myself."

You can only trust one cat in your life, and that's you. No matter who you befriend, who you love they can always betray you. They can leave you in the dust, tasting the salt of your own tears. And in the end you'll only have yourself, the one cat you always should've had. The one cat that you should only worry about; the one cat you should only trust.

A living mistake

For once, she seemed obedient when he started to cast her leg with cobweb. He thought she would have been more resistant. But at the last moment she pulled her leg out of his tending, finishing the job herself. Fortunately, her leg seemed to be doing better already.

Her bitter words caught him off guard, only to be replaced by amusement. She sure was independent, was she? But it only made him more disappointed. Though she still didn't seem like the other rogues in this group, she wasn't like a Clan cat. He wanted her to trust him, and him be able to trust her. And act like a family like his old home. But, that dream was long gone.

"You wouldn't be here if you wanted to be alone and take care of yourself, now, would you?" Sharpclaw couldn't help but say, amusement carassing his tone. "If you could take care of yourself just fine, you wouldn't need us. But here you are, basking in our shelter."

Scarlett rose her attention from her leg to his face, only hollow resentment rested amongst her fiery orbs. "Here you are, asking questions that don't need answers." she hissed. Closing her eyes she looked away, the raw pain of the trust she was deprived of so long ago lingered merely beneath her skin. Choked up with emotions she grumbled quietly,

"Don't you know how to treat a lady?" It was a mere statement her mother had meowed so long ago. Back when her and her brothers used to tussle. Because of her abnormal size she always ended up at the bottom of the dog pile. One time Plum had knocked the wind so hard out of her, Scarlett swore she could hardly breathe. Her mother gave Plum a stern talking to, the words 'don't you how to treat a lady' had always remained etched into her mind. Of course afterwards they still continued to tussle, and they still continued to win. That was before the humans found them and brought them to the shelter.

Everyone,except Scarlett, adored and trusted the pink creatures. The tabby found it hard to trust someone much more intimidating then yourself. Sighing she willed the memories to suppress once more into the corner of her mind she never visited. She hated those memories.

Opening her eyes she let out a heavy sigh, "I just needed a place to sleep, this is unfamiliar territory." Pausing she threw Sharpclaw a scathing glare, "Does that answer your question?"

A living mistake

Sharpclaw raised his eyebrow, Lady? But he merely dismissed it, unwilling to ask her about it. For all he knew, she'd just respond to the question by clawing his ears off, not daring to answer it directly. Besides, why would he care? The last thing he needed to worry about was to understand the she-cat's unfamiliar language.

Satisfied with the response she gave him in the end, he gave her a curt nod. "Rest well, then. I'm sure Snake here will assist you if you have any troubles or questions." Sharpclaw meowed, flicking his tail toward the tabby tom. Backing away, he turned around and walked toward the opposite direction, in thought of sleeping himself. Might as well...tomorrow I can check on Scarlett to see if she's actually leaving or not.

Before disappearing completely he looked over his shoulder, "Keep one eye open, though. You never know what...dangers...might come lurking." With that, he dissolved into the darkness, leaving no trace of his existence behind.

Scarlett snorted as confusion flickered throughout his gaze but she decided to keep the retorts to herself. She didn't need another petty argument over something that honestly didn't matter. Raising her brows she watched as the confusion slowly washed over with contempt, he seemed satisfied with her response, even if she put little effort into it.

Nodding she cast Snake a glance, "I don't need any help at the moment, you can go too." She mumbled quietly, it was rather hard to completely drop her pissed demeanor, it was who she was. The little cat wasn't a nice being, she hardly recalls the last time when she didn't want to kill someone.

As Sharpclaw slowly vanished into the blackness that surrounded them she found herself taking heed to his warning. It wasn't everyday you found yourself in a completely new environment. But his warning seemed much deeper then he let on, as if he were implying that she wasn't safe. Not even here.

Closing her eyes she let out a shaky sigh, she'd have to sleep lightly tonight. Padding towards her nest she found herself flopping down without hesitation. Drawing her paws under her, she willed herself to sleep. I wonder what the next sunrises will bring--
