Pain infiltrated his nerves, anything singled pain, pain, and more pain. Through half-closed eyes he tortuously lifted his aching head. Another set of coughs attacked him, the smoke was filling his lungs. He had to get them out of here. But that wasn't the only reason. The snarling of a vicious dog only encouraged him more to get going, and out of danger. He watched helplessly as Nightscar took the dog on by himself. 'Adderfang! You have to get you two out of here! GO!' The words brought him to his paws, trembling from over exhaustion he reached down to grasp Redthorn's scruff. Suddenly the she-cat jumped to life. Her eyes wide; her nostrils' flared. Adderfang clumsily backed up. Redthorn pelted past him, it only took him a few seconds to register this.
ADDERFANG
A kind word can attract even the snake from his nest.
Torn between following Redthorn, or helping a clan-mate he stood frozen. Eyes darting wildly he slowly turned toward the fight. Nightscar was still standing; but it was uneven. The chances of the tom coming out alive were thin. Gulping he padded toward them; I need to help. But what use could a battered, exhausted tom like him have? It hadn't dawned on him that he would only be a hindrance. Suddenly a rush of wind ruffled his messy fur. Feebly he lifted his chin, trying to spot the source of power. A large orange tom had come out of no where and was shredding the dog's face.
Stumbling about he decided to let them handle the situation. He'd only get himself killed; and for some reason he didn't want to die. For once he had a reason to live. Jittery he managed to pad toward the lake. His eyes were only looking for one face; Redthorn. He wanted to thank her, tell her these feelings welled up inside. He wanted to tell her.
Slowly, but surely he managed to tumble into the array of pelt colors. Eyes darting about he found her. She was beside her brother, as usual. Gulping away his fears he approached the she-cat; shyly he scuffled the ground.
"Thanks for saving me." he meowed, his voice grew confidence, "I was wondering..." The words caught in his throat, the whole ordeal was a tad bit embarrassing, but he wanted it badly. "Do you think we can be friends?"
